New Purple Gig

Apparently this thread lives on without me.

Just a quick history. Before purchasing this gig, I spent a couple of months reading everything, and I mean everything, I could find online about their care and acclimation. I also spoke to several long term owners. So I know what I am getting myself into here. The tank it is in only has the gig, a small bta and a Perc. So it can be converted to a HT in minutes.

Regarding ibluewater, it's not like there are dozens of places you can buy a small puprple gig. Do they QT? Guess we cannot say for certain. However, they sent me videos of my choices so I knew exactly what I was getting. I am very happy with my experience with them.

This is a marathon, not a sprint. So I was a little disappointed that there were so many negative comments a few hours after receiving it. Took this pic this morning. The tentacles are about three times longer than yesterday. It has eaten and continues to show signs of positive progress.

Should it begin deflating, I will seek support elsewhere. Too discouraging to read what people are posting here. However, one month from now I will check back with good news or bad news. My Perc and I will now go back to enjoying our new Nem. It hasn't even been 24 hours yet...

Well I sure enjoy your pics. I'm very impressed with bob over at ibluewater. I have spoke with him on many occasions, and highly recommend buying from him. Although he is quite high on the pricing. Thanks for this post and keep an eye on the Gig. They are very tough to keep. Good luck to you!

it may sound harsh , you have no idea how many perish in shipping , or importing
they are trying to help you please listen and ask question
there isn't a forum around like this with people who will go out of there way to help you and the survival of your new purchase , which I know wasn't cheep.

MachPilot -- Looking better everyday (pic is from this morning).

Yes, feeding every other day.

Consider decrease feeding to every 3rd days at the most. My observation indicated that it take them two days to digest a larger meals. I know that my large Mandarin bone came back up 2 days later, same as snail shells. I feed my Gigantea about 2 cc each feeding for one that is about 6-8 inches. Larger one can eat more but I don't want them to get too large so I don't feed them anymore than smaller ones. 9 chunks of fish/squids for 9 anemones in my DT right now. Maxi-mini don't get to eat.

OK. I feed all of my anemones every 3 days normally -- including my maxi mini; it likes to eat and I am not worried about it getting too big. I have just fed the gig twice since getting it. Which would be every other day.

I know plenty of folks will disagree with this, but I am feeding it daily. My anemone-addicted perc will not leave it to eat. So I feed it with a turkey baster and the gig of course eats as well. I use the same mix I feed all my tanks: frozen mysis, blood worms, brine shrimp and R.O.E.

As long as you don't mind it growing and growing I see nothing wrong with small daily feedings.

I may switch back to pellets for the clown. The gig will not eat them. It just rolls them into a ball a ejects them. But the gig really started to color up with the regular feedings and the clown really prefers the frozen mix. So I am going stay with that for the moment.
