New Pygmy Angle

we have a potter's angel and he usually eats reef bugs, diatoms, brine shrimp. He hasn't eaten any corals or inverts.

I've always wanted an angel for my reef but afraid to chance it! Would be curious to see others experience with various types?

i have a potter's and it is fine in my reef. potters are touchy fish though, and should only be attempted by someone who knows what they are doing. a lot of potters have problems working onto prepared foods. other pygmy angels to consider:

flames
coral beauty
wantanabe
bellus

the last two i don't think are pygmys, but they are relatively small.

They are a try it and see. They will like LPS the most or they may leave everything alone. I have a potters, flame and a emperor in my big tank and no problems but it is mostly SPS. I had LPS in my bow front and my gold flake loved nipping on them.

I have had a glodflake with no issues. I do like the potters very much, scared of them eating/ niping at my clams. Any one have had a clam nipper?

You got an argi? If so, they are the most reef safe, grazes on micro algae when not muching on food you add to the tank.

Although generally reef safe, it comes down to the individual fish. My Coral Beauty loves zooanthids. I believe Sagi (iamkosmokramer) had(has) a potters that nipped at acans.

I had a Potters for 3 yrs, he would peck once in a while but never destroyed anything including a clam. However it would beat on any fish i added to my tank except the the bluethroat trigger, must have been the teeth LOL. As far as feeding the angel it ate everything it was offered pretty much from the start. I lost it in my near crash this winter.

I've had a good dozen or so Pygmy's in my days, most I've had more then once. I would say it's hit or miss with everyone, some last a year no picking then star one day out of the blue.
With there color, personality and size I always found the risk worth taking.
Erik
