New - Qestions On Profilux 3 EX beginner pack & vortex controller, etc.

Gotcha!

New member
Well I have decided to stay away from a calcium reactor and run my kalk stirrer with a Profilux dosing pump system and while trying to organize what I will need I have some questions (I am not a wiz at computers and equipment like this so I want to make sure I get this right and get exactly what I need).

Current system is an Elos 120 with the new aquatop 4 strip LED and I run 2 MP-40's.

I will get the 4 unit dosing pump unit along with the GHL Profilux 3 EX. I will also get the vortex module along with a few bubble magus balling containers for my Elos prima line additions.

Here are my questions:

1) I am going to order the GHL Profilux EX beginner pack. What is the real difference between the EX and the plain beginner pack exactly?

2) I will order the vortex module. The cables from the vortex pumps that go into the control modules on the vortex controllers look nothing like the connections on the picture of the vortex controller. How does all this work? What additional parts will I need to order besides the controller?

3) Again I am not a guru regarding computers and software. Are setup directions and instructions real easy to understand or will I be online all the time trying to get help haha?

Again I am new to all this computerized monitoring stuff yet this looks like the best system out there with the best support so any help in my transition would be greatly helpful.

Thanks Greg

Greg,

The Profilux 3 and Profilux 3 Ex beginner packs are identical with some minor extras in the controller for the Ex model.

The Ex Controller adds the following features:

- Conductivity (Salinity) monitoring
- Redox (Orp) monitoring
- 2 extra L ports (the ports used for Tunzes or dimmable lighting)
- 1 Extra port for a level sensor (giving you a total of 3, instead of 2)

The Vortech control module connects to a Profilux 3 via GHL's PAB interface. The Vortech module then communicates with WIRELESS ONLY EcoTech Vortech Pumps. You need to make sure you purchase wireless enabled Vortechs for this to work, or upgrade non-wireless models to wireless ones (you can do this with the ecosmart upgrade kit).

TY for the help and the nice phone conversation. I was sad that the stand alone doser could not be controlled by the Profilux 3 but ohh well I will make my decision on the stand along without the Profilux 3 or the doser with the profilux 3 in the next day. The vortech pump feature is maybe to nice to pass up regarding the decision on which way to go initially xD.

I have one question and I thought I would ask here rather then calling you again. This is regarding feed mode for the vortech and the controller.

1) Is there a way to set the feed mode by just turning down the pumps thru the profilux 3 when you decide to feed since my feeding schedule is not always constant I.E. the same. By this I mean if I decide to feed can I go to the Profelix controller and select slow down pumps to 10% for a certain period (like say 10 minutes) without having to use the vortech controllers and setting the feed mode cycle from the actual vortech controllers themselves?

or,

2) Does the Profilux 3 have a timer cycle that is always the same. I.E. 7 pm it goes into feed mode cycle for 10 minutes slowing pumps down to a preset value you set and you have to always feed the fish at that time 9 pm in this case). I.E. there is no way to select the 10 minute feed cycle thru the Profilux as you decide "today I will feed the fish now" and have a way to just go to the profilux controller to do this rather then the vortech controllers?

Thanks again

Greg

Hi

you can select a feed pause for the current pumps to 0% off I think this answers both if not let me know

Yes I think that answers the question. So if I have the main controller outside the tank area on a stand:

I can go directly to the base station and get to the pump info and select feed mode at any time (with the variables I set for the pumps like 0% for 5 minutes) and dis-engage the pumps and place them in feed mode that way whenever I decide to feed instead of going under the tank and going to the vortech pumps and holding down the button for like 5 seconds to place them into feed mode for the 10 minutes thet is preset on the vortech's?

I think that better explains what I mean so a yes here and I will start prepaing my order for the whole ex system and doser rather then the stand alone.

Thanks Greg

Side note since I have not looked yet. Are the directions for setup that are sent with the controllers pretty self explainatory with regards to step by step instructions where you do not have to be a computer genius to figure out what you are doing haha. Sorry I had to ask this.

Hi

the exc button on the front of the panel acts as the manual feed pause you can adjust this time period.

In regards to set up, drop us an email and we will guide you, the manual mainly covers connection and front panel programming, for all other stuff, we are here 7 days a week ;) kind of like a live user guide :)

Greg, I guarantee you will find this easier than getting that sump working the way you expected it would.
