New quarantine setup for hippo tang

Hello everyone!

I have a 75 gallon set up for about 8 months without a quarantine tank. I have a yellow tang, clownfish, green chromis, and a damsel. When I purchased my yellow tang about two months ago I had an outbreak of black ick so I want to setup a quarantine tank and begin introducing fish the correct way. I have an anemone in the tank so I was limited to which treatments I could use. I found prazipro to work great for the black ich. I would like to get a hippo tang and every hippo I've ever seen has had bad ich.

I want to know how to correctly setup a quarantine including which treatments and what levels for them. I currently have a 10g and a aquaclear20 for it. I appreciate any info you can provide.

A 75 is way too small for a regal tang. Unless you get one of the tiny 1" ones, but they grow pretty fast. It's a great excuse to upgrade though.

20-30 gallons is prefect for a QT. I think many of us formalin dip new arrivals and then tank transfer them to prevent crypto. Then it's two treatments with Prazipro and observe for other nasties for a month. Pretty simple really and it goes a long way to keep your tank healthy.

yea i'll be getting a baby hippo from my LFS. I've done a freshwater dip before, is the formalin dip a similar process? I was under the impression that I would need to treat with copper.

Read up on tank transfer. It's a lot easier. Hypo is a lot of work and usually fails to prevent disease unless you're very careful. Copper works well too, but it's still more of a pain than tank transfer.
