new RBTA cruising tank-questions...

i placed it exactly last nite where i wanted it in a perfect spot. it attatched inside hole in LR, fed it,seemed happy. stayed all night and was still there today at lunchtime. i called my wife, she said it moved out of hole and 1/2 across tank anchored behind a huge 14" monti, now facing corner. it's a corner tank and it can barely be seen. i placed it last night in front, bottom 1/3, w/ mod flow and mod-high lighting. it's now in high flow and low-mod lighting. it came from a dimly lit tank, so i cut MH down from 6hr/day to 3. planning on increasing 1 hr each day till i'm at 6 again. VHO's on full 12 hrs. should i reposition it or leave it? i definately didn't spend $100 on a bad-as* RBTA to have it facing corner behind a huge coral. should i feed it again also?

Keep trying to feed it, but do not attempt to move it. It moves in order to find the preferred microhabitat conditions (certain flow, light, substrate, etc.). By moving it, you risk damaging it (and possibly killing it as a consequence) or causing it to wander even more.

so basically if it stays behind this huge coral not visible, i should leave it...? i read when u put it in and have it where u want, then feed it. i should feed it when it's in this undesirable spot? i thought it might stay put where i wanted it since i fed it, thinking it would know it would get food there.

There is more then food that an anemone needs. When it finds a spot that fulfils itââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s needs it will stay there. Give it time to find a spot to settle in where it likes, not where you want it. If you keep moving it, it will die. The anemone you got is not one that will stay put, it will wander from time to time. I have a seabae anemone that has been on the same rock for over five years.

I would wait awhile. It might be looking for different water parameters so once it is used to the water and you put it back in your idea spot, it might like it better next time. Give it time to acclimate to you tank. I think it's ok to try to feed it but I know what you mean about rewarding bad behaviour. If you see that it is loose and easy to remove, you can plop it back where you want it but I wouldn't move it if there is any chance of damaging it.

My new GBTA took a few weeks to settle in and has not moved in months. My Roses rarely move more than a few inches over after a split. I have them on their own island now.

To get it to move make it unhappy where it's at. Change the flow or lighting on him. I wouldnt try to peel its foot off the rock you might tare it. If mine moves where I dont want him I will move the rock he is on. It can be a real pain if its on a rock on the bottom. Im glad he doesnt move very often maybe once a year. Good Luck

just got home. he's actually attatched to LR which big monti is encrusted on. he's open nice and bubbled up but u can't see him unless u look from side around monti. he's in LOW flow, but only about 8" from overflow box. maybe he likes the low steady flow of water flowing near him into overflow box. he is also in low-mod light. his tentacles are not really moving much at all. this is close to the most lowest flow area of tank. i'm gonna be patient and keep again tonight.

1st of all why did u spend 100$ on a RBTA??!!!!:eek1:

2nd An Anemone if you did any research will go and stay wherever it wants, doesnt matter where u want it! Place it where u like expect it to move.

3rd patience is the way to be with anemones. Make sure you haev good flow and good water conditions as well as lighting and you should be alright

I'd also be concerned with the overflow while it's still in the moving around mode. I've had them get caught in the overflow slots and get torn apart. If your overflow is running near maximum it could cause your tank to overflow if it blocks to many slots.

1st $100 because it's a high quality anenome from top fish/coral supplier in NJ. u get what u pay 4. on line they were $70. with shipping u r near 100.
2nd i research more than u do in school pal. i'm a researchin mofo, and i know they go where they want. 3rd, it's getting late, get to bed and ready for school 2 morrow pal .
3rd patience, i have endured some of the most grueling situations in life from patience!

-i was thinking same thing about overflow slots, but for him to reach it, he will have to climb down to sand and onto overflow box. no LR is near box.

If it continues to move around the overflow is a crap shoot... trust me. A getto cover made from eggcrate that stands off the overflow an inch or so will protect you, your animal and your floor. Once it settles in for a month or so you can be a thrill seeker and remove it. :)

i think it's settled. it's in high flow and light and hasn't moved all day and looks super rosy and bubbled up. i think it found it's spot. this is day 3. if it doesn't move by sunday, i'm going to get a pair(hopefully) of juvenile maroons. i'll get 1 smaller than other and pray. they're only about 1 1/2" at store.

Actually $100 is about where the RBTA should be priced when you factor in what it would cost the NJ LFS to forward it in from LA. This is not the whores market for the RBTA we were seeing the last couple of years. Then again we have a local store here that still sells the same quality RBTA from 3-4 years ago for upwards of $200. When the RBTA started flooding the market it was obvious to me that they were not the same in form, growth or color.
