New Reef Savvy Build

awesome tank. can't wait to see this one. would you mind pming a price on this tank. i'm waiting on a quote for something similar. i think i did a tank 20" height.

Well the build took a turn for the worse...Living Reef called last night to tell us that the stand was made improperly and can't be remade and powdercoated in time to deliver today as planned.

The owner was very nice and offered to refund our deposit on the stand or to bring a tank and setup for us temporarily or even to have an aluminum stand made which could be done in time. Of course the only thing I want is what we ordered by this Friday as discussed.

It's not the end of the world, but I'll now have to move my current tank into the new house in some random corner and set it up again until the Reef Savvy and stand are delivered. 2X the work for me.

Oh well.

I had the same issue you had, I moved and the new tank was delayed si instead of moving the old tank and breaking it down into the new I had to set it up in a random spot until the new tank came.

Sucks but you'll have more time to get it right.

Another note, Do not use aluminum without powdercoat. Many think as it does not rust it will stay clean but it will oxidize very quickly under a tank. It wont effect its structure but will look ugly.

Unfortunately things never seem to go as planned when dealing with reef tanks. But hey you will be that much happier now when you do get the new setup.

Sounds like Living Reef understands how to deliver great customer service. Even though there is a problem they seem to be willing to do whatever they can to make it right for you.

So the tank and stand showed up around 11PM this Tuesday. Here they are sitting in place...

Yes, that's drop cloth going in so I don't get PVC primer and cement all over the floor and walls.

The more observant of you may notice that the stand is different that the picture I was provided. Not sure how that happened but apparently this is what I got. The only problem is this threw me back to the drawing board with some piping ideas because of the large gusset plates in place along the back of the tank.

Here's the sump as delivered. The bulkheads are 1" and the drain bulkheads on the tank are 1.5".

I'll probably drill out the sump inlets to allow for 1.5" drains all the way down. I won't have high turnover, but I don't want to create any noisy turbulence in the drain lines.

Well I aquascaped and added sand yesterday and today was going to be the big day!

So I topped up the water and got the internal overflow box wet...a little more water and got the back overflow box wet...WAIT!...What's that dripping sound?

I spent an hour playing with the plumbing. I finally drained the water and disassembled the overflow and guess what I found?

The acrylic overflow box has a leaky seam.

Waiting on a response from Living Reef.

Great thread and I'm looking forward to the build. Did you have any issues leveling the tank on the Saltillo tile floor?

It's really hard to tell in the photos I've posted so far but I bought the stand with leveling feet (which I normally wouldn't do) so that it would be easy to level it on the saltillo.

I was up late again working on this one, but I did want to let everyone know that Felix from Reef Savvy got in the car yesterday and drove from Miami to Orlando to drop off a new Ghost Overflow. The folks at Living Reef then brought the ghost overflow to me plus the piping fittings I had to replace in the re-plumbing.

Impressive response.

+1 That's why they are IMHO the best in the business! Not only are there tanks flawless and sexy they have "True" customer service as well.
