New Reef Savvy Build

SuperDodge

Cleaner of Fish Poo
So some of you may remember my old thread about building a Deep Blue 75 Rimless tank in a big rush. (Linky Linky)

One year ago, I moved from Greenville, SC to Lakeland, FL on a corporate relocation and only had 1-2 weeks to decide where I was going to live and how I was moving all my things. I opted to move into a rental and I built an aquarium in FL before shipping my livestock to myself. This was an effective way of moving fish and inverts but I lost most of my corals.

Also I ended up with a sub-par tank that didn't excite me like my old 30" cube. The tank has fallen into a maintenance nightmare as I no longer put the energy into that it deserves.

Last week I bought a house here in Lakeland and I thought. Hey...perfect time to change up tanks.

Thus the build begins...

So far the only detail that is completely known is the tank and stand.

Living Reef in Orlando had several Reef Savvy tanks in stock so I decided to spend more money for this thank than I've spent on entire reef builds in the past. Maybe I was desensitized to spending after buying a house, maybe it was just a moment of weakness.

The tank is 60"x24"x18". It will be delivered this Friday along with a custom powdercoated steel stand...

Oh yeah...did I mention it has a GHOST OVERFLOW!?!?!

Anyway, here's a mockup of the stand as well.

Now it's time to sort out the remainder of the equipment. My existing Trigger Systems sump is too small for this tank and would flood in a power loss so I'm still sorting that out. Most of the other equipment I'm hoping to reuse...

I think it was an impulse buy because you won't be able to stand watching Clemson play so you will want to spend some qt with a quality system! :headwalls:

Man this is gonna be one sweet set up. Reef Savvy is In my opinion as good as it gets as far as tanks go. What are your plans for lighting at this point?

Right now I'm planning to use my 2 EcoTech Radion Gen 2 Fixtures. I think I can get 60" of coverage out of them with maybe a little shadowing at the very ends of the tank.

Update - The sump is selected. I'm going to use a My Reef Creations 36" Reef Sump mostly because that's what I could find on such short notice. It doesn't include filter sock holders but Living Reef is getting a filter sock holder from MRC that I can attach myself.

This sump looks to be awfully similar in design to my Trigger Systems Elite Sump, which I like. There are no published dimensions for the chambers for this sump online, so I'm taking it on faith that my skimmer, heaters and return pump will fit.

Also, this sump comes with 2 1" bulkheads, but my ghost overflow has 3 1.5" bulkheads. I think I'm going to remove the bulkheads on the sump and replace them with a 1.5" male thread adapter on top and a 1.5" threaded coupler on the bottom. These should fit in the hole for the 1" bulkhead, I think and prevent me from having to reduce the pipe size.

It's going to be fun plumbing this up in a day. I'm usually a little more methodical.
