I'm in the market for a new RO/DI and wanted to know what everyone was having good luck with. I know that I was told you can get them off eBay for a good price but I don't remember with one he said. So what does everyone recommned.

Lots of folks are using units from Water General. They are reasonably priced.

You can find them on Ebay.

I went through two of them in two years. The membrane in them is not very good, it has a very low rejection rate and uses up DI much too fast. I replaced the membrane in my second one with a FilmTec membrane from Buckeye Field Supply and couldn't be happier. When I get ready to buy another whole machine I'll get it from them. No more Water General for me.

I got an AQUA-Safe model from ebay in 04.

I hooked up a TDS meter last night that I recently purchased.

278 ppm coming in and between 000 - 001 ppm coming out.

I have not changed any of the filters yet and it was very reasonably priced. I think it was about $100 for 100gpd.

thats what happened to me

i got a purely h20 unit

my next unit is going to be dual membrane unit (less water wasted)

I have the water general unit also. It started as the 100gpd but as Jack said, it uses di resin up too quick. I've heard that you can get the good 75gpd membrane when you order it from them and they will send that one instead. If you add on a large vertical di unit, you're set to go. Since all these membranes and filters need changed so often, it really doesn't matter who's name is on the sticker and a plastic housing and metal hanging bracket doesn't really matter where it's from.

FWIW I went with the 50 gpd membrane when I switched membranes. The higher gpd membranes are not as efficient and you get more tds into the DI. DI was becoming a large expense and time to make water wasn't a big issue. Not all membranes are equal so when it is time to replace it, go with a name brand membrane and I would probably never go back to a 100 gpd membrane..

Yup, there should be a phone # on the ebay site, just call to place the order and ask for the 75gpd membrane, they will put it in at no extra cost.

seller is filter direct or water general. If you call them you need to tell them you are ordering from their ebay site. They have a regular website but the prices are double.

I already have a Ro unit under the sink I just need to get a setup for my saltwater so unless it is better I really don't need to get a drink. I just go to the fringe for a cold one.

The first one you have is what I have had a couple of. One important thing...the DI cannisters don't work well laying down. Stand them up so the water enters the bottom of the first DI cart. exits the top and flows down to the bottom of the second cart. and exits the top. Horizontal chambers have channeling issues. Setting them vertically solves that problem and prolongs the life of the resin.
