New RODI unit.......

waverz

Slave to the reef!
Just got my Typhoon III from airwaterice.com, i just got it installed and figured out, i didnt realize it had 2 outputs, one is for RODI and the other is just straight RO. My tapwater is 290 ppm, the RO water is 20, and the RODI is 0. I love being able to test TDS.....hmmm wonder how many ppm my can of beer is.

:p

Here it is...i have the RODI output hooked straight up to the tank, so to do a top off i just gotta turn the valve. Im thinking baout adding a 55 gallon drum with a float valve for mixing saltwater, i get them free at work so might as well do it.

Heres a shot of my top off valve...someday ill make it automatic but this is pretty simple.

Sweet, the only thing i didnt like about mine was when i turned the water on for the first time it sprayed water everywhere! Apparently the oring on the RO membrane wasnt in right. I fixed the problem and now it works like a dream. I aslo love the fact that it comes with a TDS meter, they are so fun!

did you throw away the first 20 gallons? Mine said you had to run it for so many gallons and then throw those away because the membrane needed to be flushed before using it.

Im not sure, the manual says that the RO should be ro should be 5-10 percent of the tap water, MY tap is around 300 so i think 20ppm is about right....right?

And yes i did throw away the first 20 gallons or so........

20 TDS Ro seems a bit high. What is your waste to RO ratio?

Yes, that is correct, your TDS coming out of the RO membrane will depend on what it is going in and should show a 90-95% reduction, you can only remove so much with it. My tap water has a TDS of 200, it is 10 coming out of the RO membrane(95% reduction), you have a 93% reduction which is fine. There are many factors working here, water pressure, temp etc. The gpd rating of the membrane also has an impact, higher gpd membranes have a lower rejection rate, ie a 50gpd membrane will reject more than a 100gpd. The only way to reduce this further is to add a pressure pump, but that costs extra $$. The DI will take care of the rest.

It is true that there are many factors that play into RO TDS, but the thing you want to remember is anything that is not taken out by the RO will be taken out by the DI and the DI will exhaust faster if you are pushing higher TDS water through it.

I just got a TDS meter today. I got my RO at Lowes before I knew any better. The membrane is a 93% rejection rate membrane. My TDS post RO was 80. The two stage spectra-pure DI I added to it thankfully still knocked that down to 0 TDS. Think it is time for a new membrane.

I bought a dual reef/home kit from Air water ice and exchanged the horiz. di with a vertical one. My faucet tds is 570 my ro is 11. It was super easy to install and works great.

I should have my RO/DI Thursday. I'm really excited to get it up and running. I'm sure my coral will be loving it too, considering the water they have been getting is from the grocery store. Never know how reliable the filter changes are there. I think I'll be shocked when I use the TDS on my water.

I got my Typhoon III and love it. Very easy to install and you are off and running. I do have a small leak on the input connection, but I think some tephlon tape may take care of it.

I finally made the leap. No more lugging jugs of water!!!!!!!!!
