how long should one have mixed salt water before adding it to the aquarium?

i wait 24hrs, some people as soon as mixed, for me 24hrs unless its a emergency

Most salt mixes will dissolve with a few minutes or so of stirring. I use a pump. Another 20 minutes or so is probably enough for complete aeration, but the saltwater could be used as soon as the pH is acceptable, especially for small water changes. Some salts, like Instant Ocean, mix to a good initial pH, and others require some time to drop to a reasonable level.

thanks so much !!!! ur people are amazing .... yeah its an emergency ... i got a shipment of liverock today for a ten gallon nano and for my last two takes (before and during college, which i had to take down cause of moves), i usually got a two or three major peices and three or four littler ones, but this time i got 16 lbs and around twenty peices, which took six days to get to me ... so the water was filthy; so i mixed another ten gallon to replace the rocks to when then are cleaned off; wasn't expecting this .... this is going be a real hell to aquascape; funny, tho, when i first just placed them in, they came out looking good ... with so many pieces in so small a space; i'm never going to get it right again ... que sera sera ...

Most recommendations I have seen are to aerate the new salt water overnight, as newly mixed salt water is more "harsh" on the animals than water that has been mixed for a while.
