NEW Saltwater Fish Store in WNY/CNY!

The only way you can get an Achilles in Buffalo is to special order one and none of the shops will acclimate it, you have to take it in the bag right off the plane.
I don't know which store(s) in Buffalo you are referring to, but I can assure you that the above statement is entirely false. We are all very excited for Adam and Kyles new shop, but let's not go overboard making claims on behalf of other stores, especially when some of them have this exact fish in stock as we speak. Congrats on your new purchases, sounds like an awesome trip. :)

If you're referring to the store you used to work at Jon the guy that owns it said he wouldn't order an Achilles for the store because too many have died on him. He would order one for a customer, but they would have to take it in the bag right off the plane. There is no part of that story I am making up or exagerating. The guy in North Tonawanda said the same thing, and the guy in Lockport told me "you can't keep them alive, don't waste your money." In all my trips to the LFS's I've seen one Achilles for sale and that was at the store Adam used to work at.

As much as I'm excited for Adam, and I do hope to purchase an Achilles myself in the next few months, can anyone really blame these store owners for not stocking the fish? It IS very difficult to keep, NOT recommended for any beginners, and IS quite expensive. Makes good business sense to me not to stock risky creatures unless you're pretty sure it will sell...

I don't think stocking is the issue....who the heck would want to go to the airport and collect their fish fresh off the plane when another option is an LFS who will acclim/qt the fish before you p/u?

I wouldn't knock other stores for not doing it, but I would most certainly praise ones that did!!

I don't blame the LFS's for not wanting to acclimate a sensitive high end fish such as an Achilles. It makes no sense for them from a business perspective, too risky. I just wasn't willing to risk taking one in a bag directly from the wholesaler. Salty Dog happened to have one, I knew about it, and they kept for me until I could get out there, after I paid for it in advance of course. There are lots of fish I've never seen in the LFS. I was also thinking about a Sohal Tang, but I've never seen one in a store. I suspect there are some fish you'll never see, unless it's a special order situation. I took a Blonde Naso, and a pair of Exquisite Wrasses in a bag directly from a shipment once. The Naso and the female Exquisite died within two days. I will NEVER do that again.

Which ones?!!!

I just got back from another visit, the store has really come along nicely, the amount of awesome LPS has tripled. So much more eye candy than when they first opened.
