New Sebae

Just got a new addition to my one year old 12g nano.....a very nice little (4" diameter) Sebae. I have 2 black false percs who have hosted the output nozzle on the nano (seriously), and so far don't seem to care about the new arrival. From the research I have done, it seems like they may never decide to host the Sebae. Over the past few days i have noticed my hermit crabs showing the most interest, some of them even seem to be bringing the Sebae food scraps. Does anyone know if the crabs are immune to the sting, or are they just clueless? Any and all info about experiences with Sebaes would be greatly appreciated.

How much light do you need for a sebae? I was planning on a BTA but the sebaes are incredibly cheap around here for some reason. BTAs cost upwards of $75 or more.

My LFS had the Sebae alone in a smaller dispaly tank with what seemed to be pretty dim light. The Seebae seems to be in great condition with my standard lights on my AquaPod 12g. The anem has a very nice healthy brown color...no bleaching at all. From all I have read, you definitely want to stay away from any dyed or bleached specimens. I trust my LFS with all the stock I have purchased there over the last year.

I've never seen a non-bleached anemone at any LFS ever. Even in their display tanks they are often bleached. The only healthy anemone I've ever seen in person were the ones at Dr.Mac's place nearly 2 hours from here and from a local reefer who I'm thinking of buying one of his from.

This is my Sebae when I first got it:

It has been a month and a half since I got mine and has recovered from its bleached state very quickly just because of my intense T5s, additional feedings and stability in general. As you can also see, my sebae has grown quikly too so I would be planning on upgrading your tank within the next 3 months. Additionally, Heteracits Malu can be delicate sometimes and if your nano takes a big hit in its water chemistry, it could go bad on you. Just my .02.:)

a little off subject but i think dist/wholesalers need to be more responisble i've seen order forms with white sebae's on them and they where a few dollars more than the brown
go figure?

I have to say...my LFS has always been very honest and informative about all their stock. When I bought my Sebae a couple of days ago it was a very nice golden brown color with purple tips. It was explained to me that this was its natural color, and that it had been in the store for a couple of months to allow it to recover from shipping. I am reading all I can about its care, and hope it stays happy in my tank. Again....all info and experiences are appreciated.

She certainly is an interesting little creature. When I came home tonight and fed the tank, you could see the anem start to pull some of the food in with its tentacles. Now she is in a tight litttle ball (not inside out) about 1/4 her size from a couple hours ago. Hope all is well, and this is just the way they eat.

All is well this morning! She is back to her normal size, and seems to have grabbed a couple of Formula One Marine Pellets for breakfast. Still no hosting from my percs, but they have ventured over to that side of the tank....which they have never done before the intro of the nem.

Just watched one of my Cerith snails decide it wanted to take a trip under the foot of my new Sebae anem. The anem moved its foot a little bit to let the snail under, and then stepped right on mr. snail! Snail hasn't moved for about an hour, the anem just took it's first big poop, and I have no idea what I just witnessed. Snail suicide? Any info would be appreciated.

So far all replys are right on the money. The snail is no longer under the anem, I used a turkey baster to suction out the waste, and everyone looks happy. Percs still have no interest in the new arrival, and continue to host their favorite water outflow nozzle.

I bought a nice Seabae for my Percs. Clown pair and they pretty much ignored it, but instead hosting a Toadstood coral. This is like two months ago.
I decided to try with a Blue Carpet this weekend and no sooner it hits the
bottom of the tank they dove right into it.

I don't think Seabae is a natural host for Percs.

My black false perc pair were "tank raised"....so who knows what they think is "natural". Maybe one day they will just figure out the anem is more fun than the water nozzle. Let me know how that Blue Carpet acclimates. There is so much negative info out there about anems.....takes guts to give it a try...:o)

Lol - you want to know what my lfs did (Nolans btw) they were selling white seabaes (bleached) for 39.99 and brown seabaes (healthy) for 29.99 ???? i guess white is just more attractive even if it isnt healthy. hummm...
