New Setup Opinions Needed

I'm setting up a new tank(210G) and I'm trying to figure out what I should do. I currently have a 120G for over 11years with a 50G sump both filled with LR. In another area I have a 70G sump filled with LR. The 120 has alot of softies but the new setup with be predominately SPS . The 120 will be removed. The rock I have is loaded with zoos and a soft corals . The amount of rock is about 500lbs. Should I scrub the life off the rock or should I just sell all the rock and buy new rock.I really don't want to kill anything but there is no way to mount many sps corals. And removing and remounting would take for ever.100's of zoo's and softies. I do have some pieces I could save but for the most part there is life on everything.I've been going back and forth forever now and I'm leaving it up to all of you to convince me.
Thanks
Tom

Hey Tom, Im getting a 225 tommorrow with alot of live rock. We could swap rock if you like. Im supposed to be getting approx 200 lbs. Ill know more tommorrow but keep it in mind if it interests you :)

I'm not too sure, but you could probably sell the LR and zoas that you have, and use that money to buy fresh rock and cover the cost of your start up SPS corals. And you'd be able to get the right pieces for the right spots in the new tank.

Starting off fresh always seems better, and you'll get what you want the first time instead of having to compromise, or wishing things were different.

If it were me, that would be my plan...I don't think you'd have a hard time selling them.

Either way, good luck with your new tank!

BTW, if you decide to sell, I'll buy some of your zoas and softies. :D

I'd be interested but I'm looking to get only large pieces. The basement where the new tank is also is used for my stepsons band practice. He's got a 1200 watt Bass amp so I'm planning on some how glueing everything together in fear of vibration.
I'm open to ideas on that as well.
Thanks
Tom

I have some decent sized rock. There was slime algae growing on it so im going to "cook" it for awhile. The tank was also 52 degrees so im not sure if there is any bacterial life still in it. If theres a few pieces that interest you we could swap some and you could sell the rest or something like that.

I'll have to think about that. The rock I have is teaming with life just not all the life I want. I might just buy new Fiji rock or Tonga branch, but I'm looking for really large pieces. I bought show once but those pieces weren't even that big. I need a source for unusually large pieces. You know us reefkeepers we can be fussy and insatiable.:)

I might also want to get my hands on some of your softies - especially zoas and interesting mushrooms.

Hope that didn't come out too weird.

Whatever you decide to do here--
A word of CAUTION---------
DO NOT -- AND I REPEAT DO NOT
try to do anything with zoos on rock
There have been guys winding up in hospitals and darn near dying trying to scrub them off, even after being left out in the cold for months. Inhaling fumes or having or getting a scrape or cut could lead to problems you do not need.
These animals are some of the most poisonus on the planet.:eek2: :eek2: :eek1: :eek1:

I'm a victim of a zoa attack.:
Just last week, I forgot to wash my hands after moving some around in my tank, and then accidentally put my fingers near my eyes.

The next day I wound up in a walk in clinic trying to explain this a doctor (who I could barely see), who sent me home with a bunch of different kinds of eye drops, because he really didn't know what to do.

Needles to say, I was pretty much blind for 2 days, couldn't leave the house, and fell down the stairs. Not to mention my eyes felt like they were on fire the whole time... not fun.

I'm not touching them again unless I absolutely have to, and I have gloves.

Whatever you do, just be careful!!!!
