Okay I don't draw the best but this should give some Idea of what I have planned. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I'm going to do away with my 30 fuge that held Chaeto, in place I'm going to make a basket out of Egg Crate to old the chaeto into place in the 100 gallon sump.

There is also a drum marked Old Salt Water. The only reason for the drum is when I do water changes I can see the exact amount I'm tanking out so All I will need to do on New Salt water drum is open the Ball Valve and let it drain right into the sump with out needing any extra pumps. One of my concers is I'm pumping Salt water into the Basement sump pump.. Will this mess the sump pump up over time. As of right now my RO unit waste goes into the sump pump as well so it always has fresh water going into it as well.

Lonnie,

It could mess up your sump pump unless it is made to be used with saltwater.

Something else to check is where the water is pumped to. Often it will be pumped into a rock filled, grass covered hole in your yard and is allowed to soak into the ground. That would not be a good thing for your grass or any other plants in the yard.

Yes I do.. Now I need another pump to pump it to the drain.

set your dirty SW reservoir on a little stand like 4 feet off the ground...then gravity feed it

is that an option?


either that, or do what I do...the reason you said you wanted the dirty reservoir was so you know how much you have taken out

what I do is just make lines on the sump for every 5g (bucket size)....only have to do it once...then everytime there's a water change just see how many lines down you go and fill it back up the same

Are you going up and over for your return or through a bulkhead?
If you go up and over, you can just drill a siphon-break hole and you won't need the check valve. If you're going through a bulkhead, then you'll have all that weight of the water in the tank to keep the checkvalve closed, not just what's in the pipe like we were talking about.

Up and Over. Yeah I guess I really don't need the Checkvalve. At this point I guess it would just be an extra cost, and something else to have to keep up with.

Actually! I don't want a Check Valve because then If I need to redo lines I have water stuck in them.
