New Shipping thermos!

I thought I'd let everyone know I found a new type of thermos to ship Zoa's in!

Its a TINY soup thermos. Says for cold products only. It also has a separate compartment for a spoon on the top. That top compartment holds 4 cubes of ice or a small ice pac PERFECT!

The whole thing fits inside a 4x4x4 box!

It is not completly water tight & has a slow drip if turned upside down, so I bagged the coral inside the thermos.

Shipped it regular overnight & coral arrived great! I had the reciever take a temp reading & the water was a nice 79 degree's. Temps outside were in the mid 80's.

This small package made shipping $5 cheaper than a regular thermos size box.

Granted its only good to hold a single zoa frag & would leak if the coral was not bagged inside the thermos.

Just thought I'd let everyone know these soup thermos' work great and make shipping even cheaper. The thermos it's self was the same price as a regular thermos at $3.99

I got them at the grocery store, Right next to the tuperware. I've found them at 2 stores so far, one is Stop and shop & the other is Foodmaster.

Swweeeeet, thank you very much for posting this!!!! I wanted to send some out to GFlat and Reef Junkie and couldn't find good Thermos' that weren't frou frou... Problem solved!

here it is open. (BTW that ruler is 6 inches...sorry its blurry)
The first compartment holds a small ice pac or bag of 4 cubes of ice. that part screws on top of the thermos part, the blue lid screws on top of that.

aint that somethin? ;) pretty neat. i wish they made larger ones though :(
when you shipped it to the other person, did you ship it USPS express, or priority?

where do you find boxes that are exactly 4x4x4?

maybe the USPS flate rate priority shipping boxes? i think they are larger than that though...

yeah, the flat rate are 6x9x7, if i remember correctly
I have gotten bigger thermos's but I have found that small frags do allright, but anything attached to a rock will get beat against the hard plastic and damage it, so styrofoam works better for that. but for smalll frags and zoa trades this should work fine. by not using the flat rate box i have been able to ship three frags priority for under $5. Under a pound and a half.

You can get 4x4x4 boxes at UPS but they are freakin expensive (relativly speaking) at 1.50. You can order a bundle of 10 or 25 online for just .16 - .25 cents each, If you ship alot.

I've shipped 2 out so far one USPS express & one UPS overnight by 3pm. Nothing has made the 2 day run yet.

Hey, just thought I would let you guys know that I found them at Walmart in with the dishes for $2.48. Bet they are less in a larger city too, because we usually pay more (for rural shipping) at our Walmart.

:D glad I could be of some help! I know shipping is alot of the time more expensive than the frag. I look for every way possible to cut costs without cutting health of the coral!

A BIG thanks to TBP for being my guinie pig ;)

Sweet.. Thanks for the heads up Jov :)

I used to use these and they worked awsome. But the other day I went to target they were out. They were great cause I could fit two in the flat rate priority shipping box. Each one held about 4-7 small frags. If anyone finds any websites that sells thermo's this size please post a link. I would like to buy some in bulk so I don't have to scramble to find one when i work out a trade.
