So why not have "average" and "typical" items be low-priced? Why is everything expensive? I asked specifically about several "average" and "typical" corals that I could have found on any website and in any store, nothing special or unique about them or their colors, and those were the prices I was surprised about. I give them the benefit of the doubt -- I know they are not "fully" open yet and haven't officially priced everything, so I don't expect door buster deals right off the bat, and I also expect that they may not have everything priced out uniformly.

I also asked about some very unique and different corals, and was not surprised at all to find out that they were on the expensive end. Those types of corals have always been out of my budget, and probably always will be. But I know that there is a lot of demand for them from people that can afford to pay for them. That's great! I will enjoy looking at the pics of them online. ;) Of course a higher overall quality of livestock is going to command higher prices, but you will still need to keep in stock a bunch of cheap things for "budget" shoppers like me; people that cannot or will not pay a lot of money for one coral.

I was very impressed by the store, and I am super excited to continue to shop there. Don't get me wrong -- it looks like it's going to be a great thing for Tucson. It was just kind of hard to find things that were cheap enough for me. The one thing I did buy was very fairly priced (even internet-competitive) and I was lucky to snatch it up before anyone else did. But I had to ask about quite a few different pieces before I found something in my budget. Maybe my budgetary constraints are significantly more restrictive than other peoples' in this hobby and what I am saying is out of the norm (although I don't think so), but I'm sure there are other people in my shoes as well.

Again, I'm not saying the prices were outrageous or out of my league. I still found something to buy, and will find something to buy next week, and the week after that and the week after that... Just small, cheap, common things are important to keep in stock too for people like me.

I visited SEA for the first time since their soft opening. It's pretty cool. I saw many things I've not seen in Tucson before. I left with quite the wish list and "visions of sugarplums dancing in my head." (Yeah it's like Christmas in there.)

As for pricing, I think they have very good value - even if I can't really afford it. Currently there are many good-sized SPS colonies in the $80 range - you get a lot of bang for your bucks. And it's not just SPS. Then there are the real show pieces - but again the prices seem pretty competitive for the higher end shopper.

The really GOOD NEWS is that they will soon have a frag tank. :celeb2: Mike and Quan said they will have a good selection in the $10 - 30 on up range for those of us who have more patience than money and don't mind growing things out. I can't wait to see what they frag because if the selection is anything like their bigger pieces, it will be soooo fun.

I'm excited to see some of the interesting fish too. We tend to focus on our corals and the fish are sort of afterthoughts. Now I want some more fish.

Someone posted that they hope the community supports this new shop. I don't think I'll be able to help myself. ;)

“those of us who have more patience than money”

I really like the way you put that! I might have to use it sometime.

And a nice selection of quality drygoods with a fair price would be very nice too. It kills me that I have to pay for shipping on something like 2-part because all of the local guys charge an arm and a leg for it...if they even stock it.

it looks like jason brewed up his own 2 part and is selling it in the store. mike says he has used it in his home tanks and it rocks. i will be testing it out next week to see how it does. seems like a good price as well.

I'm reading people saying that the prices are "high" but the way I see it is if your going to buy a "frag" (1" twig) for $20 and they have "mini colony's" (softball sized) for $80? that doesn't seem like a bad deal to me?

Just my opinion, between SEA and SWA Tucson is back on the map, we should see Phoenix start coming to Tucson to check out our stuff soon. From what I've seen so far these stores will work together for the Reef comunity, which will be a welcome change and good for all.

Maybe they will take out that other store.:hammer::hammer:

anybody know what hours SEA is open or maybe a phone # for the store? Is there a website yet?
