I got this actually over a month ago, and could not get very clear pictures out of it at all. I kept messing with it every chance I got, and eventually came to the conclusion that something must be wrong with the optics.

i talked to B&H, and was sure it was defective as i couldnt get any shots in focus under 1.5feet (1:1.5), although the min focus distance is 1.24feet (1:1). it would take "ok" shots above 1.5feet, but it still didnt give me the "WOW" factor that it should with a lens like this.

well, i finally got my replacement copy, and all i gota say now is WOW! i'm blown away by the clarity in the pictures, and i'm getting perfect focus all the way to 1:1, and can even crop and zoom into pictures with great results (which i couldnt do at all with the previous copy of the lens).

here were some of the first shots i tried out with the lens right after i opened it out of the box. (all the nature pics were at f22, as i forgot i was in AV mode...meant to take them in auto mode cuz i was in a hurry, so i know these pics could have been ALLOT better if i had the time)

one of those little weeds you find in the grass all the time

this is one of those tiny butter cup flowers bout the size of a dime you normally find in the grass, i got totally lucky when that little sweat bee landed on it and stayed still long enough to take the shot.

on to the coral pics...these haven't been messed with at all other than to resize them. no enhancements what so ever. these were taken in AV mode on my XTi, around F9-F16 I believe.

Wow, great pics all around. The coral pics seem a lot clearer than the nature pics above. Could just be the lighting I suppose. :)

thanks!

probably b/c i had more patience and a better tripod inside. lol

...i think it was like 90deg when i tried to take those nature pics, so i was trying to take my time but its tough when you are hot and sweating while basically laying on the ground to get these shots. ha

awesome shots!! Getting a good macro shot can be very difficult. Especially getting the colors right. Keep up the good work.

wow, beautiful shots! is that a macro lens?

what is the coral in the last 2 shots...the purple with green. I have a piece of that.

some great shots there. how do you find the auto focus on the lens? I read some reviews and that was one thing people complained about. some said it was slow, and or noisy.

yes the autofocus is slow and "hunts" alot, but as any photographer will tell you, dont use the autofocus, use the manual focus. ;)
