...which also happens to be my first eel. A little surprised to see this one at the LFS.

beautiful eel! by far one of the most interesting patterns. One of my favorites. im quite jealous. Did you beat DD's price on the one they had listed?

Little one escaped the tank TWICE last night and made it into the chamber on the top right.

I didn't think I was going to get the eel back out the first time only to have it happen AGAIN before I finally figured out where it was escaping. I knew it couldn't be the lid but there were a couple of little holes in the corners of the tank that it could slither through. You can see where I jammed some foam near the top right corner of the lid.

Naturally, both times I thought it carpet surfed and was looking under the bed.

I think your eel is jumping because it's feeling a bit insecure. I'd build it a more complex cave network with more live rock. It seems to be stressing over lack of cover in that video. Once my ribbon eel and snowflake had established themselves in my rockwork, they were much more calm even when cruising the tank for snackies.

Gorgeous eel. Like showcase said though, add some more liverock for cover. I'd probably cover the entire bottom of the tank with rock/rubble since its a small specimen/enclosure.

Definitely a nice little eel. In the video, it looks "nervous" so to speak. I'd make him a little place he can call home if it was my tank. With my tessy eel when it was small, I placed three rocks together and a piece of PVC pipe underneath and he loved it.

That's actually the only time I've seen the eel "out" after adding it to the tank, so I grabbed the camera.

It ate a small piece of silverside last night.

Sweet, it's great when a new addition starts eating fast. Eels are almost always pretty easy unless it's a ribbon :)

I understand, but I still feel that he is not as calm as he could be. Even when out and about, my eels would cruise at a much less frantic pace. I speculate this is because they had many caves they could easily retreat to. Couldn't hurt to throw in a few more pieces of LR.

Good to hear it is eating and best of luck with this beautiful specimen!
