New Skimmer Break-in

As per my build thread, I am getting close to finishing my re-build. I have my new sump and skimmer sitting in waiting. Is there something I should do to have it ready for hookup?

Run it for a while with a vinegar solution? How much vinegar for the ~75 gallons total volume?

Run it for a while with water taken from my weekly change?

Something else?

Running it in a vinegar solution will remove excess Oils used in the MFG process, you can do that in your Tub you don't need the whole 75gals. Or you can use your old water either way it will still take some time for It to break in fully on your system. Be Patient It will be working soon enough!

Thx... How long should I run it for. I still have a couple of weeks before I attach it to the tank so I have some time to play with.

I would do the vinegar for a couple days, Then run it on your old water until you are ready to put it on your tank it should be almost good to go!

Yeah, poolkeepers, approach should do you well! I slapped mine onto my empty 90 and just ran it for 3-4 weeks before it really got broke in, so the longer the better.

Sounds like a good approach... will do.

Is there a recommended ratio of vinegar to water. I assume straight RO/DI water and no salt.

Got the skimmer running with the vinegar water mix. Pumps have not settled in yet and are running a little rough, but the amount of foam was crazy. The inside looked almost pure white with tiny bubbles... When I checked on it a couple hours later the collection cup was almost full. Decided to leave the drain open for the break-in... duh.

Tomorrow if they are still acting up I'll open them up and see if everything is seated properly... not even sure if it came with the PW or MW installed.
