new skimmer wont skimate

Hi,

I just bought a reef octopus 160 and hook it up and placed in my old sump with a chamber tall of 16" and knowing this not going to work so I connect a maxi-jet 1200 to phosban reactor with water control valve on top of the reactor and drain it to refuge.


I be able to keep the water level at 10" in the chamber and steady at 10" for days.


I got the water in skimmer stay where it should be and get some thick perfect bubbles come to the collection cup.


The problems is, I waited for days but the bubble just get to the top and touch the lid and wouldn't do any further.


I mess around with it for days and no matter what I do I can't get anything out of. Either strong water flow come up the cup or nothing.


So I decide to move it into refuge which current is only rocks and water. I move all the rocks to one end and place the skimmer on top so the water level can be at around 10".


I get nothing now. no bubbles. really nothing but water

90g display, 75g sump/refuge, 100lb dead rocks from my previous tank, some dry sand, 1 damsel

No bio load no skimmate. If the skimmer is still breaking in it may take a while for it to skim.

I've have my 75 gal going for a few weeks now and a new sro 2000 int skimmer. I havent messed with the skimmer much because I know it needed a break in period. I have noticed that I am getting great foam & skimmate at times and a few hrs later I'm not getting any foam. I quite sure that this is because of very low bio load(except heavy feeding the last several days). I am up to 5 small fish, 2 of them added a few days ago.
Maybe this is the issue your having?

Low bio load and or he needs to let the skimmer break-in. it can take up to a week or two.

Yeah I got a aqua c EV180 and it took my skimmer about a week to produce a skim , but know its skimming out of control .

Also make sure you got a strong enough pump running on it .

I just got a 180...what pump are you running.,...?
