new spot

MN, try a Mj1200 with the sure flow mod!! You'd be surprised at the flow they put out. It all depends on what you want your power bill to look like. CL's suck the power faster than some of these powerheads. I have done both and prefer the powerheads. Try some Tunze Streams, if you haven't tried them already. Coupled with one of Tunze's controllers, you'll love the "night mode" and "feeding mode". Actually turns the power down instead of tuning off. No closed loop can do that.

but my question is can i eliminate power heads altogether with a closed loop. I just really hate the look and hate the thought of wires in water for some reason. I know tunze is top notch, but also top price. I had moded mjs before and feel they are an eye soar just like koralis. I just want to do it right this time, maybe tunze is the way to go. My power bill is already over 300 a month so how much worse can it really get, lol.

there is no way i can tell you if it is an all glass aquarium for sure. I know the bottom is two sheets of glass and i would not even think of drilling that. See I am a tile setter and have suction drills with water vein injection i am just kinda scared to touch glass again. I kinda got cut up on the last one and almost got my daughter when it exploded.

Well, your daughter getting hurt is not worth it, is it? Is the aquarium a DIY, or manufactured by a company. I know ours had a tag on the bottom glass that said it was an all galss aquarium. I agree with the eye sore statement - it just takes away from the beauty of the reef. And, I also thought that from my research on pumps that the sequence dart was pretty energy efficient (if you can call any pump that). You shouldn't need any power heads in the tank at all if you get the holes drilled so you get the flow you want. My opinion of course, and I'm relatively new to this, but so far our closed loop is giving great flow - without any wires in the tank...

No I bought the tank in the cities, but i don't see a decal anywhere. But, yes the dart is very efficient and not nearly as much as a tunze system. I would have like 700 into tunzes plus having that many more things to fail, plus maintenance, and there has been alot of talk on tunzes needing lots of repairs lately.

I say go for it...Call the company and ask them if it is glass. I doubt that you will shatter another one - wear safety glasses though!!! Just kidding!

You don't need to drill to obtain a closed loop. Many have dine "over the back" closed loops with great success. It sounds like you don't want unsightly powerheads and power consumption is nto a big deal. If that is the case, you can get better distribution of water from a CL. Your draw and return can be "over the top". Your return can be through multiple outlets pointiung in different directions.

james i never really thought about that but that is also a good idea. I am kinda kicking around the idea of tunze system also, I just have 4 koralis right now and it would be nice to only have two powerheads if not any. I think what i am going to do is not drill the tank no matter what. I am going to see how the dart performs here and see how things work. Than if i decide i still want closed loops i could do it just like that.
