ps this is also on the main forum :D

im building a stand for my 150, i used 1/4" panels to skin it, as the 2x4 frame has all the weight, so to answer your question as long as you have the tank's weight on the frame and not the panels you should be fine. the factory stand that came with my 150 was built only out of 1x4 panels, i just feel better with a 2x4 frame.

im going to try and use a table saw and rip a 1x4 in half. then cut a 1/4"groove in the board then slide my 1/4" panel in this groove and make like a picture frame out of the 1x2 with the (picture) being the panel. not sure what its going to look like but first i have to buy a cheap table saw. going with a piano black paint stand.
good luck

Why not just get 1x2's in the first place instead of ripping them, It's kinda hard without a good saw and help. As far as your Idea it's solid but the doors out of 1/4" without a more solid frame will be very flimsey. If you did 1x4 frames and 1/4" centers you would be better off as it would be a lot more sturdy. JMO Also a Pocket Joiner would be handy to keep the frames strong.

well my good friends's dad has a woodshop(makes cutting boards) so the proper tools wont be a problem. i think if i use 1x4's then the frame would be too bulky, i say this because when i see people kitchen cabinets, they are all smaller than 1x4. they look more around 2" frame with the raised centers. im all for 1x4's if i knew it will look good. and im def. going to buy a pocket joiner this weekend, just got the frame done and ready for the trim, panels and doors. then just got to paint it black and poly it!

Actually mine measure 2 1/2" Wide, So is that a 1 x 3" It was built by Mel who owns a Cabinet Co and is Professional all the way. I'm not sure on the exact measurment of the Frames so I'll find out and LYK

i knew it was smaller than 3.5" but bigger than 2" but didn't know. right now my front of my stand opening is 29 1/2" x 44 1/2" with the side opening at 20 1/2" x 29 1/2". going to be some big doors.
