New starfish

Something appeared on one of the legs of my new red starfish. Anyone know what it is and is it bad?

Yes that's bad. IME it will continue to grow until the starfish turns into toilet paper. Some say it might shed the leg...I am no expert but the one time I had that happen to one of my stars was due to an injury it got (I was rough getting it into my tank). It still moved around like normal but the stringy stuff just kept growing and growing until I finally fed it to my harlequin shrimp in another tank.

:strange: Just a thought. could you amputate the leg and let it regenerate??? I don't know if this is possible?

These animals do very poorly in captivity. Often they are already starved or damaged, the disintegration process begins with those tufts of internals poking through the skin.
