New sump issues. SO LOUD!

hello everyone. So tonight I successfully ran my new sump, overflow, pump, everything. I have only had hang on equipment before. I am having some issues though.
I have tons of noise coming from three different areas. My overflow box. it is gurgling noise. Then the output the water falls straight into the sump and sounds like a waterfall. and last is my aqueon quiet flow 1700 is extremely loud.
Does anyone have any advise on how to solve these things?
Will a filter sock eliminate the waterfall? Thanks a lot! :love2:

The gurgling is a common issue but there are plumbing solves for it called herbie or bean animal. If you don't want to deal with that you can try a durso standpipe design which will help somewhat. Those first two can make it virtually silent however. Do a quick search they are all over the forum. For the waterfall, is your drain pipe deep enough so that is is beneath the water level in the sump?

I am not that familiar with that pump or its inherent noise level, but you could try putting something under it to dampen the vibration. Neoprene mousepads work well.

Do you have a single drain line or two drains? With a single drain line it is difficult to get it to run quietly, but if you have two drain lines you can make it run virtually without noise by installing a gate valve near the bottom of the drain line and use the valve to slightly restrict the flow of water so that the water back up almost to the top of the drain line in the overflow box. That will eliminate the waterfall noise and the gurgling noise all at once. Only use a valve in your drain line if you have a secondary emergency drain or you risk a flood when the primary drain clogs up.

post some pics of your overflow set-up and return. There are lots of options to silent the system. Here are just a few (depending on your set-up)....

1) dial back the return flow a bit (do not put a restriction on the drain unless you have a back-up dry emergency drain!). May not be the solution you are looking for long-term. It will not be silent, but it could help a lot.

2) Durso on drain/stand pipe or reverse durso on drain as it enters the sump.

3) Put a slight bend in the return piping --more of an s-configuration so water is slowed a bit before crashing into the sump.

4) for 100% silent, the best option is a Herbie, but you must have a back-up drain. We need a description of your set-up to help with this. How many drains do you have? Where is your return located? If you have 1 drain and 1 return line in your overflow, we may be able to convert them both to drains and run the return up the back of the tank. Lots of option here.

post some pics of your sump and overflow box. Try to describe what the sound is and where it is coming from (waterfall in overflow box, toilet flushing, water crashing down, etc). Don't panic...I have a single drain in my set-up and it is VERY quiet.
