New sump/refugium

Hi All,

Jeez ive been have some really issues lately with my aquarium. I just upgraded my sump from a crappily made DIY sump to a professional custom sump/refugium. Ever since i made the change i have noticed that my aquarium's water runs warmer and it is evaporating 2x faster underneath in the sump area.

Is this normal? can someone explain why this happens?

thanks

Is the new sump a good deal smaller than the DIY? If so, less water volume = less work for the heater(s). Perhaps turning down the heater? Or investing in a chiller? That would explain the faster evaporation as well.

Did you change return pumps? Still using the same skimmer? Are your heaters controlled by an Apex or other type of controller or there own thermostat?
If the sump is larger, more surface area, more evaporation.

not so much surface area that will do the evap but the increased temperature IMO.

Heaters set at what? Is the sump fully enclosed? has your home heating system been on since the new sump went in? Home heaters tend to dry out the air causing add'l evaporation
