New sump

Sandwich the acrylic pieces(1/4" thick) between nice thick beads of silicone and you will not get them out of there.

I think you're willfully missunderstanding the thick beads of silicone part just to boost your out of date argument about glass vs acrylic. Cut glass too long and see how well that's going to work for you trying to get it in there.

Your "right" way is proven wrong all the time, have a look through the archives you will find tons of people using acrylic baffles. Glass works, acrylic works just as well, no need to be a jerk about it.

Maybe you should measure twice and cut once. Or better yet measure three times and cut once.

I will also bet that the broken baffles were window pane glass. Sure acrylic will work, but for how long? Come on guys do it right the first time, Glass to Glass and Acrylic to Acrylic.

Oceanic, Marineland, Aqueon, what do they use to attach acrylic overflows to glass tanks, osmosis, velcro, magnets? Nope good old silicone. I hope somebody in here wrote them a letter telling them they're doing it wrong.

So I too am pulling the trigger on a dollar days glass tank from petco robe used as a sump.

If I were to use glass, where would I find the glass? Who would cut it? Will the same company I buy the glass from do the cuts? What thickness do we need for a sump?

Look in the phone book under glass. Call around and you'll find what you're looking for. They'll cut it for you and sell you just the size pieces you need. 1/4" would be fine.
