New sun I just bought... Hoping the colors are true.. the gravel in the background are pretty good so im hopeful.

What foods are people using?

I use mysis, brine, dafnia, oyster eggs, rotifers....

Other types and brands would be good for variety...

Thanks

I don't think a reputable site like LA/DD would offer dyed corals for sale, but that is just my opinion.

The lighting may be on the blue side for the pic. Would be interested in seeing the true color of the coral when you get it though. Keep us posted.

As far as foods you have them covered....they aren't picky IME. To add to your list I also feed mine flake, pellets, cyclop-eeze...etc. I also just got some AquaThrive Nourish (a marine worm based food) that my corals and fish have been going crazy for.

Yea from what I know Non Photo cant be dyed.. I agree with the blue of the pic... but it didnt look too extreme.. I will see when it shows up...

Actually Tubastrea can be, and is dyed red sometimes.

Again I don't think LA/DD would sell such corals though. There was a thread in this forum a while back about a guy that saved a Tubastrea coral that was dyed red (I can't remember the name of it though). It was a general thread about Tubastrea I think, so if you do a search you may be able to find it.

He was able to save it, and it turned back to a normal orange/yellow color with time and dedication.

That's a beautiful color if its truly representative. No way DD would sell a dyed coral unless they were tricked themselves.

It will come in a lot pinker than the photo. If you look to the top right of the picture you can see the lighting showing blue in the gravel which will give the coral a more purple tone. Nice Tubastrea, regardless. Kevin would not let a dyed coral come through LA.

Yea, I assumed it would come in a little less extreme as the photo. Just excited to see how different. Either way, if it looks to much like the ones I currently own, I will sell it. LOL

In addition to the foods you mentioned I also feed blood worms (mostly for the mandarins although the suns don't care and will eat it too) and prawn eggs (mostly for the gorgos but like somebody said: suns will eat almost anything :) )

Is there a pic of how it ended up?

If the question is for me, here is how it is at this day.
The tint of origin becomes blurred little by little. It is, now, in the orange / yellow tones
It increases well and makes new heads.

The lights they keep their coral under at LA DD is so blue. This coral will def not have that hue you see in the picture.

If you read the Divers Den heading, you'll note they write, "All images shown on this page are taken from above, illuminated under 20K 400 Watt Metal Halide lighting".

They're not trying to hide anything, nor have a reason to. As mentioned there's no way Kevin would let a dyed coral leave the building, and based on their relationship with exporters and collectors are very unlikely to ever even receive one. Dis they "photoshop" it? Maybe, but 99% of pics are white-balanced, etc., not necessarily trying to alter colors to a better look (as many hobbyists do, and some retialers).

Will the coral look a bit differen upon receipt? Maybe, but not that different. Everything I've received from them has been darn close.

The only way it will look like that is if you make everything in your tank blue. period
