New Synergy Reef Shadow Overflow Unboxing

Cool, I'll have mine at the end of the week. Now I just need a tank to put it in.

That was my issue. I broke the tank it was to go in. I am in the process of ordering a new tank now. I had planned on putting on a spare RedSea Reefer170 but left it on an unstable surface and came back to a cracked tank in the morning.

I am in the process of ordering a SCA 50g 24x24x20 tank custom drilled for this overflow. Once the tank is picked up I will also add some black starboard to the bottom for a BB sps tank.

I also plan on building a t-slot stand and skinning it with stained oak to match my desk.

Here it is, it took longer than I expected to upload.

Sorry to hear about your Red Sea tank, I came home to find my box from Synergy Reef as well, I ordered mine from MACNA.

Thanks for the video. I just received mine yesterday as well. Everything looked good and my initial impressions were basically the same as yours. After taking the teeth off, I did have to wrestle with it a little bit to get the teeth to go back in. Its a little bit finicky to get the sides perfectly squared up the first time. I also never found out what those two pieces are for that came tapped on the inside?

No, I never figured it out. Those two pieces seem to be completely random. I read over the list of things you are supposed to get with the overflow and whatever they are, they're not even mentioned.

I just got an e-mail from Synergy regarding the two tabs. Here's there response to my question.

Those are used as keys to remove the front weir when it is in place. You will see on each side of the removable weir slots where these can be inserted and turned to pop it loose. If you watch this video you will see how we used a strip of plastic to remove the weir. These tabs are what you can use. Just makes it a little easier. https://youtu.be/dlFgyflSrbY

Thanks for the reply. I was wondering what they were for. Couldn't figure it out lol.

LOOKS QUITE SLEEK.

My big concern is coraline algae build up and acrylic will expand and contract some in any situation... That removable weir teeth part will either become un-lodged,Stuck on or become harder and harder to remove or keep on over time..

Maybe a combination of all of the above ..
Just my opinion.. hope I am wrong

Same impressions here for the most part. I believe it looks like it'll be pretty good and I'm excited to get it doing to try it. But the teeth are definitely a bit difficult to get put back on once it's off. It'll be quite the PITA once on my tank the way my euro bracing is
