New Tang Not Eating (day 2)

I just picked up a convict tang from CPE on saturday. I think that he was eating in their tank as I saw him pooping. I did not see him eat at all in my tank. Formula 2 is what I have tried.

Anyone have any ideas?

I know that these guys are like cows of the sea so the next thing to try was to tie some cheato or somethign to a rock and see if that works for this guy.

Please, please, please any ideas at all. I don't want this guy starving.

Thank you,

BK

Chaeto is a good idea or you could get some Nori and rubberband it to a rock. Sometimes they will eat and sometimes they will not depending on what is going on with them, ie: disease.

I just added grape caulerpa and cheato. I put them on a suction cup on the glass.

Would it be better to tie it to a rock?

And your other option would be to call CPe and ask what they were feeding him. Get some of it.

Isn't there something you can add that will also help stimulate feeding? Garlic or some such...

Anyone know this one?

Some say garlic will help. There are some preperations on the market that are supposed to help with appetite stimulation.

I'd get me a Nori clip and some seaweed. I'd also contact CPE and ask what they feed. try some live stuff if you can find it, and go from there.

He seems to have a few ICH dots on him so I will fish him out and seperate him for a couple of weeks.

He'll get hungry eventually.

Convict tangs are a very un-hearty fish and are notorious for this. Keep trying different foods and good luck.

o yea,... i have seen about 6 convicts before, and i dont think that one of them ate anything from the time that they were shipped in until their death.

the ones i saw dwindled away until they were skeletors

Now I'm not sure if this is the CORRECT thing to do but you might want to try some food soaked in cyclopese or something similar. Obviously you don't want them to get aggressive, etc... but I can't keep mine away from ANY food when feeding. even silversides or mysis for my anemones. just a thought. In my opinion, better than it dying

I'm trying live food next.

Man if I don't get my 5 meals per day I freak out. Stupid fish has not clue what he is missing.

try good meaty things like cyclopeeze. a tang isn't going to dye just because he eats meat for a few months.

O yea, before my tang ever ate flakes/Seaweed Selects he ate frozen formula 2. You might want to try that.

I did notice a lot of algae in my tank while i was feeding that though, but it was the first thing that my tang fell in love with.

Convict tang RIP 4.3.2007.

Thank you for the help guys. He unfortunetly died today. I think there was more wrong with him then not eating. I should have had CPE hold him for me for one week and see if he is alove....

Lesson learned:

Don't buy a convict tang unless you see him eating.
