So I purchased my 40 gallon B.

I started the tank stand and LOVE it!

Heres some pix.

I will be drilling next week and doing the plumbing the week after.

One question. I thought I was going to use my 20 H as a sump refuge. But my mom claimed ownership lol long story lol

Is using my basic 10 gallon safe?

Sorry, but I wouldn't use that stand.

First of all, your "2" screws on each leg (I hope you didn't use nails) will be supporting all the weight of the tank, water, sand and rocks. Over 450 lbs. The upright 2x4 legs should be between the top rim box frame and bottom rim box frame. This way the weight is transferred from the tank to the top frame down the legs to the bottom frame and finally to the floor.

Secondly, by using just one 2x4 on each corner it will not reinforce the tank enough from a solid bump. If someone accidentally hit your tank from the side the 2x4's could give enough to create a problem or outright fail. Right now only the front to back is solid. In other words if someone bumped the tank from the front it shouldn't give. If you skin the stand in plywood it will add some rigidity, but it's still flawed none the less.

Fortunately, 2x4's are cheap and you should easily be able to fix this.

I think you need to reconsider your design and instead follow the instructions here from RocketEngineer.

Good luck.

Its not done yet...

That is the exact design im following :)

Ok, good. :) I've seen a few people call their stands done as in your previous picture.

I would still put at least 4 screws instead of just 2. It may not be necessary when you're finished but overkill never hurts. Good job, I look forward to seeing the end result.

Thanks yea i can see some people doing that and triggering your red flag! I aporeciate your concern. I noticed after i didnt quadruple up on the screws for the opposite end which ill add in a few. I mainly posted so fast to keep a "log" of my progress :)

its not good that all the weight is on the screws. By doing what cuzza said you distribute the weight down to the floor to support the tank better.

I would also recommend getting one of those cheap 20 gallon longs from petsmart instead of using a 10 gallon and you'll be happy you got it later because its much longer and has more volume.
