New tank cycle

I would let it go, if it is calcium precipitation you can remove it with a filter sock or some filter floss. Don't bother adding any calcium or other buffers until you have corals that are sucking up those elements. Useless to add during a cycle.

im not an expert but it sounds like you are excited about the tank

thats ok to an extent. just let the tank do its thing. these guys are right. add inverts, then fish(slowly) then coral and the like.

i did it the way that it seems like you will. add everything fast and get it going because i was so excited! just lead to alot of headaches later im still having to fight 8 months down the road

i jst set up the 55gal and did it the way the guys and girls are telling you to do it.

it makes it alot easier and looks better. No headaches on the new one. im almost done with the 30gal.

its up to you. if yo do it all in a hurry i hope you have alot of time to spend fixing and monitering EVERYTHING!!

be pacient. if you are pacient in this hobby it will be best for you and the living things you plan to keep.

just experience from the guy who went through the "syndrome"

The white cloud could be precipitation or a bacterial bloom. I'd mostly ignore it for a while, but I might so some small water changes, maybe 10% once a day, to remove some of the nutrients or cloud, if I had the energy.

I'd wait for a week of zero ammonia before adding any animals. That gives the tank time to finish processing any continuing decay, and for any possible secondary ammonia spike to happen. I'd definitely do 10% changes at the zero ammonia point for at least a few days.

My tank is at a similar stage, probably just a week or 2 ahead of yours. I know its a pain to wait until ammonia and nitrite reach zero but I think the good that comes from it outweighs the bad. Another advantage to waiting is that it gives you time to figure how run the tank in regards to make-up water, temp, SG remaining constant, and perfecting the aquascaping without worrying about stressing any inhabitants. My house is very cold and I found out after the first 2 weeks that I was going to need another heater to keep my system warm. You don't have time to figure that kind of stuff out the first time around without being patient.

The first time I added buffer to my system I added to much and turned the tank into a white cloud for a few days. Everything settled out on its on, I just left everything running and it corrected. I wouldn't do anything different.

thanks for all the input it does suck waiting because everthing was changing for the first week and half and now its just stable at .25 ammonia and .5 nitrite and 20 nitrates i think i will go ahead and do small water change to clean up some more debri also thanks again

decided to try to attach a picture of my tank 2 weeks into cycle so i could maybe get other people to post some pictures of their tanks

If the ammonia doesn't drop in a few days, I'd definitely test some RO/DI water to check whether the kit is having problems.

yes i will try that but when i did a small water change yesterday i found a little rock behind some others that was pretty black it had to be letting off some ammonia it is dying off pretty good so i moved some powerheads around also that should get it going i hope and it is cleared up too

when u say you want to add an anemone right away, most people have heard the 6 month rule, but i've heard that is mainly due to the person caring for the tank rather than the actual maturity of the tank itself. ie. you need to be able to maintain stable perimeters etc before getting a nem as they can be delicate and things go very wrong if you upset (kill) one!

Wait on the anem. I bought a carpet and BTA (bubble tip) about 3 months in when I thought I'd had stable conditions for a while (two months). One melted in two days, one lasted a month. One dieing can kill your whole tank. Luckily I was able to catch it, though sadly it was too quick to pull them and bring back to the LFS.

On the odd side, I have had a condi in the tank I added a month before those two. Still holding strong.

Very nice Frankenstien.
