New tank- filter/ light/ skimmer!

Breeing

Hey everyone, so i've been convinced to stay away from the smaller tank and go with a 40 gallon. I will be getting my aquarium shortly and am sorting out all the supplies i will need to create a successful easy to maintain reef.

I am undecided over these 3 things: Filtration, lighting and a protein skimmer.

For lighting my thought was going with the 24-36" current unit linked below: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=27873

I have heard good things about this brand and would like to make certain it will be the correct amount of lighting for basic corals such as mushrooms, Xenia, etc.

Protein skimmer... Need a cheap option, but a good option, or can i stay away from it for awhile and get one later?

And i am lost on filtration, i was thinking aqua clear or fluval 306 and just fill it with carbon and sponge, what are your thoughts? I am on a budget and technical restraints, so no sump, etc.

My tank plans so far:

Aquarium 30" L x 12" W x 24" H
40# rock (30lbs dead, 10lbs live)
40# Natures ocean live sand
Hydor koralia 565
IO reef salt
Store bought water (can't afford the RO unit yet)

Please any help would be wonderful!
