This is a ~5g tank from Home Depot acrylic that I'm still in the process of constructing for my mantis. There is a false back to hide the equipment. The actual bottom of the tank is lower than the top of the stand so that the deep crushed coral bed doesn't actually look quite so deep when you view the tank. I ordered LED lights from ebay and am planning to construct a hood sometime this decade so that the tank will eventually house a mantis and various zoos.
Acrylic, weldon and a jig for squareness:
Wooden suport base, tank and acrylic surround for the base. The surround and the false back for the tank were spraypainted black with Krylon.
This is the completed assembly.
It has been successfully housing saltwater, sand from my established reef, a couple rocks from my reef and a small & expendible cleanup crew for the past 2 weeks. I hope to move the mantis over from his 3g eclipse this weekend. I will post when I get the hood finished. (might be a while).
