new tank, just filled. New skimmer going crazy

After a week of baby sitting, I finally have enough water to fill the sump and turn the pumps on! :dance::dance::dance:

I've got my skimmer turned on and it's bubbling and flowing like mad. To the point that I have to keep the top of the collection canister off, and the drain plug in the canister out.

Octopus 150, not space saver model, so the pump is off to the side.

The water level is on the high end of the recommended range. Will it make that much of a difference if I raise it an inch? The gate is all the way open.

The skimmer needs to break in, my reef octopus 220 did the same thing. Open the gate valve all the way and let it run for a week or so, after a couple of days a slime will start to form in the neck. After the slime coat has built up it will stop overflowing and you can adjust the gate valve. I kept the lid on mine but pulled the plug out of the bottom of the collection cup and let it just drain while it was breaking in.

when you turn off your pump watch what the skimmer does . so yes an inch matters
