New Tank - Looking to Get an Acan

Just a beginner but like what I see with the Acans. Since I have just a little experience w/ salt tanks should I buy an Acan or go with something a bit cheaper until I'm a pro. Also, anyone know of a good place to buy Acans? I'm in the Buffalo, NY area.

There are a lot of different kinds of Acans....A. lordhowensis...A. echinata....A. subechinata, etc. They aren't difficult corals and they will spread fairly rapidly of you put them in medium light and reasonably good waterflow. I don't see any reason to wait so long as your water quality has been consistently good and you attend to it regularly. Remember, though, that they will spread so they should be placed on a flat place in your rockwork which will afford them room. Also, remember that they...particularly the A. echinata and subechinata...are very aggressive coral so be sure not to allow for the possibility that any of your other coral will get near to them.

First, you're probably going to want some help online: post your total tank description, equipment, etc, so when you ask, everybody knows what we're dealing with...saves lots of time. You can read mine below.

Second, you'll want to go from beginner parameters [my nitrates are ok] to coral parameters:[ 1.025 salinity; 7.9-8.3 ph; 80 degrees plus/minus 2; 0 nitrate/ammonia; 8.3-9.3 alk; 400-450 cal; 1300-1500 magnesium.]

Do that and you should be good.
