New Tank Move

well we've gotten a new 125 gal tank and we are going to put it in the same place that our 90 gal is in... the problem....
does anyone have options for how we should move the tanks..

a couple of options we thought of were...
1. setting up several smaller tanks to house the fish and corals... ( but there are corals on our large rocks as well and they wont fit in a small tank) putting the rock that has no corals on it in plastic storage containers with a powerhead and saltwater. putting the water.. putting the sand in a tupperware container. moving the 90 out putting the 125 in its place letting it settle overnight and then place everything in the 125. ( we would be using most of the 90gal tank water and added the rest r/o d/i fresh mixed salt water).

2. buy a bunch of tupperware containers pre-mix fresh saltwater fill em up and try to do the move in 1 day by putting almost everything in the tupperware containers. ( we would have to buy like 100 gals of ro/di. the cheapest we found was 45 cents a gallon).

all this while trying to wrangle a 2 year old.

we already strongly putting the tank another place in the living room but there are no options because of windows and our dish network setup.

anyone have any other options to do this in a quick way.

Thanks

you just need to have a "move the tank" party at your house :P heheh..that would be good huh...I'm sure some club members would be willing to help! Come on guys! I'll help ya!

ya a tank relocation party.... i would get a few 40 gallon trash cans and use them for housing water ,fish, and corals till you get tanks swapped around. then you just start switching sand, water, rocks and walllaaaa. Ya i know.. sounds easy just more of a headache really. oh and the trash cans are nice storage for ro /di later, ect.

I've done this too many times to count. This is what I have done the past two times.

I Set up multiple igloo coolers on the floor around the tank. Fish go in one, corals go in another or two depending on how many, and the rock into either empty coolers if you have any left or plastic trash cans. Use you tank water. Coolers are easy to tape closed and it keeps my kids out.

Buy a 100 gpd RO and ahead of time fill up two 45 gal trash cans mix the salt and add heaters to each ahead of time. This will be cheaper than buying water.

You can line them with a contractors trash bag if thier used.

I've never moved the sand expect for a couple of handfuls. A major undertaking and it will cause the water you add to be full of silt and take a week to settle. I would go with new sand.

Tank out the old tank and put in the new.

Add sand, rock, corals and fish.

Start early and plan for an all day event.

Good luck

just dont do what i did...(i moved moved but same situation) gather all ur snails up in one bag so you have em and then leave them in a rubbermaid container for 4 days (so busy i forgot about the buggers) and yes the wife n i searched for a while to determine the source of smell...dont forget ne one!
