New tank pics 170g

Is your UV a horizontal unit or a vertical unit you mounted horizontally? The horizontal unit has an air vent inside that the vertical does not have. Also, did you leave enough room to slide the bulb out?

this uv can be mounted anyway there is no air vant in it,. an yes it can be removed just have to loosen 2 screws an i can get at it.

just a few pics under different lighting

The horizontal units use to have an air vent inside on the stand pipe that the verticals didn't. While you could mount the horizontals vertical you were not supposed to mount the verticals horizontal.

i might have to do more cheking on that. this is a 40watt lifeguard uv. do you know anything about them?

well i got the 75g sump under the tank today. i will probably start building my skimmer tomorrow and put the 45g sump in the garage.

the pump an skimmer are temp. i will be switching to a tigershark reeflo for a return and a ETSS XR1000 for a skimmer

I have a few of them in my shop and use to sell them.

i did sime checking on them. and the sell a horizontal mounting kit for them, so i am guessing its finr to mount them any was

It was just a small tube inserted in the end of the drain pipe that as water was drawn through the drain pipe any air trapped at the top of the body would be drawn through the tube and pulled out of the unit as the drain pipe is not at the upper most portion of the body when mounted horizontal with the inlet and outlet mounted at the 6 and 9 o'clock positions. I know they have changed the units drain pipe configuration a few times and based on the color of your unit it is not a real old one. They may have decided that it wasn't that big a deal because with out it or if mounted where the drain pipe is not at the 12 o'clock position all that will happen is that a larger air pocket may form until it reaches a size that it will start to be pulled into the drain pipe. Looking at my latest Pentair catalogue I see they no longer designate units as vertical or horizontal.

Very Nice. I recently set up a 240 Tall and it is cycling. It is 31" tall. I don't think I could go any higher than that. I had to go in it the other day and went to the armpit. I told my wife right then and there we were ordering a retrieving tool to pick things off the bottom. Nice tank. I am sure you will enjoy it. I have always dreamed of an inwall tank between a couple rooms. Maybe someday...

ya working in the bottom is tough. and bought some aquagloves and some grabbers from liveaquaria, the grabbers dont
ork very well the hold water an drip all over the floor. if you find a good pair let me know :)

ya this unit is only a month old or so. did you have good luch this this brand of uvs?

I prefer the Aqua UV brand.

well its been awhile my tank is almost completely cycled i only have a few small issues to solve.. my pO4 is 1.0ppm and my ph is 8.6.. those are small fights.
Right now i am trying to decided what direction to go with my tank, and was wondering and what a few of you guys thought... Reef or FOWLR

I was wondering what corals i could get in it givin my tank height and lighting. also can i get away with clams?? i would rather not have to buy a lux meter to test my lighing..
