New Tank Plans

It may be a bit hard to see what i'm trying to do here. This is the 100gal 6ft tank. The 2 black boxes are the mag 12s. One for the return and one for the closed loop. The hanging one is for the loop. The sump will be a 55 gallon tank.

Here is a sketch of the room it will be in:

I'm probably going to put those hydor rotating things on each outlet...

The only concern I would have is the closed loop. You will not be able to drill and bulkhead three holes that close together. It also appears you have the inlet for the closed loop inside the overflow? is that correct?

it will not collect water that is draining into the overflow but will collect water from the tank directly. It is just coming through there to make for a clean look...

I am also concerned that the holes might be oo close together. I'll have to hink about that one a bit more.

You may not get much flow out of the Mag12 with that much run and elbows in it unless you plumb at least 1" lines and even then I would go bigger. Head loss calculator is handy here. 1" lines basically 6 elbows if you count the T as 2 elbows would yld. about 1000 gph and 3/4 " pipe would be 730 gph. you will need an elbow coming from the pump exit to go up...one to go horizontal, the T and then two elbows to make the turns at the tank ends. Unless you go large pipe you will lose too much to be a benefit. You would also need 2 ball valves and two unions which I did not include in the calculations as you will need to be able to remove the pump for cleaning w/o the tank draining. 1-1/4" pipe would be much better but also very obtrusive looking.

Oh...and the inlet for the pump needs to be at least as large as the outlet to keep from starving and cavitating the pump. That is a lot of large holes to drill in the overflow. I do like the layout though.

Isn't it fun. :D
