I like the setup. I hadn't thought of having a section of the tank be the ATO reservoir. Cool idea!

Check the dimensions on the OR 3500 to make sure it will fit in that space. I think it will but you should double check.

i like the idea of the ATO in sump storage too?....but how many gallons will it hold?...if its a couple gallons, wont it evaporate in a couple days?....other than that, it looks great!

Better make sure that ATO compartment is actually built water tight and stays that way. That's my only real concern. So, make sure your sump builder knows that, because most sumps I've seen aren't sealed 100% between baffles. Also make sure that the water pressure from your sump won't blow out/in the barrier if the water levels in the different compartments are vastly different (usually will happen when your ATO is empty).

I'd say 5.5 gallons would be plenty to last you 4-5 days on a 60 gallon unless you're really doing a lot of evaporative cooling with fans. If you want a week vacation out of it without having your tank watcher add water, you'll want to go larger or have a bigger reservoir you can use when you go on vaca.

I think its pretty risky putting the ATO in the sump. But as long as its water tight like Brian said, it should be fine. As far as the pressure, maybe a couple of pieces of glass to use like crossbraces would help.

Looks fun, though!

When are you planning on beginning?
