New Tank question

I cycled my tank using previously live rock that I killed with vinegar and then bleach. I used rubble in the sump, live bagged sand ocean direct and ammonia with smartstart. 12 day cycle. Then I added CUC and 1 fish. So now my question is how does 15% biweekly sound for waterchanges

what you propose is a place to start. As you add livestock, adjust your feeding along with some other factors you may need to increase the frequency or quantity changed. Good luck just my 2 cents.

depends on tank size as well. in my 90G I do weekly 10% changes, when I had my 60 gallon I did about 15% weekly. in my office tank I do 25% weekly as it's only a 4 gallon. As Tony said, what you propose is a good start but every tank is different. if 15% bi weekly keeps your levels inline than keep doing it, if you start to see anything go up (Nitrite, Nitrate, hopefully not ammonia) than change more or move to a weekly schedule.

the only reason I do weekly is because I have a bad memory and can easily remember "Water change Wednesday"

with the exception of mine being on Fridays. Friday is my early day at work, so I always remember to go straight home and do a WC.

glad i'm not the only one, my wife works late Wednesday so I can cleanup any spills before she gets home :-)

ROFLMAO......

Same here actually. I get home early and the wife works late. Perfect time to do a WC and get everything cleaned up before she gets home.

I'll be the odd man out. I have (thus far) changed my water when the tests indicate I need to. I have a currently running 75 that I have not changed the water in for several weeks. But the bio load is low, the nitrates are non-existent, and nothing looks like it's struggling in any way. So I likely won't do a water change this weekend either.

My wife is actually happy to see me do a WC. She always blames my fish tank for making the house smell weird. I lay down towels around my fish tank during WC so it will soak up any spillage. She blames me for missing towels too.
