New tank running but sump issues

So I started my 24x24x20, with CPR overflow, a sicee pump, 2 mp10.. And a 10 gallon tank as a sump. It's a small sump and I wanted to add on to it. Has anyone had experience joining to tanks together for a sump/refuge? Any help would be awesome. And I will be taking down a 100 gallon tank with lots of sps as soon as I fix the sump issue.

What I would do is set the fuge tank a little higher than the return. Then run a small pump to get water to the fuge and gravity feed the fuge back to the return tank. All you need is one hole and one bulkhead. Just make sure the water level is set so you don't over flow if a pump fails. Hope this helps. Let me know what you decide to do and how you do it.

You can do the same thing with two sump tanks. Just raise one and have it overflow into the other. You will potentially get micro bubbles in your display with either design, however.

I hade the same problem as you, heres what I did; I bought a 30g tank drilled it and installed a bulkhead and then built a small overflow bow over it for good surface skimming. I then constructed a short stand for the 30g so that when the tank is on it the top of the stand the tank sits just below the output of the external overflow. Then simply connect your plumbing that was attached to your main tanks overflow to the bulkhead on the 30g. SO your water will gravity feed your 1st sump, then gravity feed your bottom sump, hten get pumped back to display. Easy and you dont have to turn off your main pump for more then a minute to set it up.

You may also want to consider a custom sump. I have a 20tall for a sump and I wish it was a little wider. My skimmer barely fits. It functions but with float valves, return pump, reactor pump, skimmer stand, drain, filter socks, media bag…etc It fills in very quickly.
