New tank running

I have 60g FOWLR tank with Caribsea life rock and sand. I got the ok from my LFS to add two clown fish and they are in for a week now. My question is do I really need a protein skimmer? And when? I am not coral or anything like that. I would like to stay at 6 to 7 fish if possible.

I would definitely use a skimmer... hob if you have no sump

Technically, you don't need a skimmer at all. They are quite nice to have but by no means a necessity. You can just keep an eye on nutrient levels and augment with more frequent water changes.

I would agree with this. With the canister make sure you stay on top of the maintenance.
