New tank up and running.

You'll want to cut down on those bubbles if you can. Over time that can cause salt creep and a mess. I know from experience :)

I have 4 maxi mods, well tow maxi and 2 aquaclear mods. I bought the maxi mods over a year ago and are doing great still. I built the two aquaclear mods my self when I set up the 150. The aquaclears are much stronger!

WOW, from Fultondale to almost Montevallo for RO water. That's a long haul. I would think you could fill your containers from Walmart's RO machine for less than gas money alone unless you have a Honda Insight.
But Daryl does have a nice store. Isn't he moving soon?

Yeh. it is a long drive, but the extra gas was worth it. I would rather support a good LFS than give anymore money to Wal-Mart than I already do

Daryl does have a nice shop and yes he is moving up close to Publix in the next month or so. He does not charge for RO unlike some of the other LFS in the area. We do not have an LFS in the Fultondale area, the closest one is in Hoover, so I would have a ride either way.

How big is it? I only have room for a 15" X 21".

Its 24L by 12W by 16H but if you can cut acrylic you can make it shorter. If you get those jugs Ill fill them with ro/di water for you for FREE:D

Do NOT use water from the Culligan machine at Walmart. Even though it says it's been serviced, don't believe it. I've had to use it in emergency situations in the past and it went well. The last time i used it, my tank crashed. Some of bottled stuff they sell might be ok, but i will never trust that Culligan water again.

Joey,

I sent a pm to H@rry about the water jugs, I'll let you know what is going on.

crsswift70,

I don't trust Culligan myself, I have had bad experiences with them in Florida. I would rather drive a little and get it from an lfs that uses the same water in their tanks. Also, I enjoy seeing what they have in their tanks because you never know what you might find.

I woke up this morning and I have an Algae outbreak. I didn't have time to take pictures but I will this afternoon when I get home. I really need to get a CUC but don't know what I should get or how many. The CUC's that the online sites sell seam to have a large number of critters. Do you really need around 50 hermits and snails for a 55. What critters are best for a mixed reef?

Here are some pictures of the algae in my tank today.

How do I get rid of this, I don't have a CUC yet. Plan on getting one this week.

Also here are pictures of the skimmer working.

You seem to have a diatom bloom. Astrea and Turbo snails will eat diatom on the rocks. If you stir up those on the sand bed gently, they should disappear.

Tomoko

I don't think that a diatom filter is going to get rid of diatom growing on rocks directly although loose, dust like diatom will be picked up by the diatom filter. A diatom filter will polish your water by sucking minute particles in water including some phytoplankton. A diatom bloom is usually a good indication that your tank has cycled. A cyano or a hair algae outbreak will follow if your nitrate level gets high.

Tomoko,

Thanks for the info, I will see if I can find some snails at the LFS.
Will it hurt to place coral in the tank this way or should I wait until this is gone?

If your ammonia and nitrite read zero, you can add a sturdy soft coral such as xenia or green star polyp. If it does well, you can add more coral, but go slowly.

Tomoko

Joey08 has a couple of coral that he has offered to give me to get me started. I don't know what kind they are, I will find out on Monday when I go to pick them up. I am checking my parameters tonight, on Sunday-
Ammonia-0
Nitrate-10
Nitrite-0
SG-1.024
Ph-7.8
Temp-78
