New tank up and running.

I appreciate all the help that I have been given from ya'll. I have just finished testing my water.

SG-1.026
Ph-8.2
Ammonia-0
Nitrate-0
Nitrite-0
Temp-78

What else do I need to test for other than Calcium and Alkalinity? I need to get test kits for them.

For now i think your good on test kits expect for the ones you know you need. And your very welcome. If you can see if you can get some small bags for your corals before you come down. Any LFS should give you some if you ask. If you cant will make do. So far i think i have you 2 monti caps, kenya tree(small) Acan frag(indo) couple zoos. And maybe more that i think you can have in your tank

I purchased some CUC on Friday, 2 hermits, 2 turbo snails, 2 nassarius snails, 2 cerith snails. We went out of town for the weekend and when I got home last night, the two hermits were dead, the snails are fine. When I left home Friday night, the hermits were crawling around and eating.

I tested my water and everything looks OK.
Parameters are:
SG-1.025
Temp-78
Ammonia-0
Nitrite-0
Nitrate-10
Ph-8.4
Ca-420
KH-14? Not sure about this one.
Phos-0

This is the first time that I have tested for Ca, KH and Phos. The KH seems a little high, will this effect the corral I plan to add tonight, if so how do I get it down. I will be doing another water change this weekend.

Are you sure they're dead? Do you see the empty shells? They may have simply moulted and you're seeing the old shells. I would think anything that would have killed them that fast would have killed the snails too.

I suspect that your hermits have moulted like H@rry said. Hermit crabs are tough. If your snails are fine, your hermits should be okay, too. Cleaner shrimp also leave almost completely intact shell behind when they mold. The shell of my skunk cleaner shrimp is brightly colored and look so really that my family still tells me that there's a dead shrimp in my tank from time to time.

Well the hermits shell was laying up side down and there was a clear gelatinous ball with a couple of legs attached to it laying next to the shell. If it has molted, I don't know where it went to because there are no other shells in the tank yet.

Hmmm, that's odd. So you are saying that you found the shell but no occupant.... The plot thickens. I wonder if your hermit crab commandeered a shell from a living snail by eating the inside of it. Check all your snails. You may find a cerith with legs ;) Hermits are notorious for killing snails for the shell or meat.

I checked and the hermit is nowhere to be found, the other hermit is fine and the snails are OK.

Just an fyi, the phosphate is probably not worth the time it takes to test it. Anything above 0.03ppm and you'll begin to see light algae growth in most cases.
The only test kit that I know of that is geared for hobbyist use (and is precise enough) is made by Merck and D&D and it's about $80... So if you have a phosphate test that measures in increments of 1 or.5, it's not much use.

Looking good so far!

New Fuge!

New Fuge!

I picked up an old sump from Joey. The sump was to big to fit under my stand so I had to cut about 4" off. This was the first time that I have tried to work with Acrylic, the glue is water thin and I found it difficult to work with, But I done and installed it on Wednesday. I like it better than the plastic tote that I was using before.

Good job.Looks great. If you will put the cheto apart like a sheet of paper it will help it grow faster. Also turn it over every week or so that way the other side will get light will help also.

Thanks man, that solvent is pretty hard to work with being so thin. I had one side didn't fit real tight and it took a little bit to get it to seal. I placed a bead of silicone around the seams.

I turned the cheato this morning and you could definitely see the difference in the shade of green from the top to the bottom.I will probably start pruning it early next week. I have already notice pods crawling around on my rock in the DT, they were not there before the cheato.

Sure do. Its not a common caral rarity you can say. Its called Cespitularia AKA blue Xenia. It will blue with red color tips in lower light and in high light it will be flesh color. Hope it makes it for you. It dont like big changes in tank prams. It grows like a weed and it was on the rock and i have a bunch so i sent it with you.

If it's like other xenias, it will adapt to pretty much anything(or die). I think a general rule of thumb is to start at the bottom and move them up. But, if it's been open a lot then it must be happy. People always say they grow like weeds, or die off. In my case, they grew quickly. Oh, and i must say, your area is MUCH more helpful and giving than mine. You are very fortunate!
