New tank up and running.

Yeh. it is pretty cool the support and information that I have received since I stumbled across this site. I am attending the NARC meeting today for the first time, to meet the nice people that are on here.

I will be heading to Mobile next weekend, I have a house down there and I am selling my travel trailer. If you still want some of my sand, I can bring a cup full for you. If so pm me with your contact info. I will be driving down on Friday.
 
For the Blue Cespitula
More light and nitrate = faster growth and fleshy color
Proper stable pH = more pulsing
Lower light = more blueish color

They are a wicked awesome little coral. just seems to grow with shorter stalks than the normal xenia making it slightly more difficult to frag...

Yes you are correct But these will not pulse or never have for me. No mater where i put them in my tank they always work there way to the top. they love the light but look much better at the bottom IMO. I never have had a hard time fragging them. these do well being fragged. I have a green one with gold flakes in it and its hard to frag and it has a longer stalk.
 
They will pulse. it seems to depend on more than just pH, but it is the primary factor. My tank is stable at 8.0-8.2 and they pulse like crazy. I agree they look better at the bottom, really brings out the blues.
I've had a few fragged piece float away, and they end up attaching somewhere else... but they never even get close to dieing.

It's OK king, i didn't need the sand per say. Since we were gonna be meeting up for the chaeto, i was gonna take advantage of it. But, i saw someone local offered you some chaeto and i figured that would be easier for you to arrange. thanks though!

My PH runs high from 8.3 to 8.5 so that might be why. This pick is from the person i got it from on a trade and it does it no justice. Sorry kingricky for stealing a bit of your thread:D

No problem, nice frag. I moved mine last night to make room for some frags that I picked up at the NARC meeting, it closed and hasn't reopened yet, I think that I will move it back. I will post some picks of the new frags later.

I placed it on the sand, that is were Will had it in his tank. If it gets out of hand I can easily remove some of it. It really opened up last night, over 60%.

I fear that the Blue Zenia is not going to make it. I really screwed that up by moving it. I put it back where I had it originally and it has not opened since and is shrinking. The Kenya Tree that is attached to the same rock is growing real good. My wife is p!$$ed about it because she said it was her favorite so far.

I am getting my first fish this weekend, I think we are going with 2 Ocellaris to start with.
 
shrunken xenia isn't unusual. It's when it starts losing "fingers" and starts to slough of tissue. The xenia i put in my tank 3 days ago is just now starting to stretch out and pulse. Prior to that, it was closed up. It would be a shame to lose the cespitulata though... very nice and kind of expensive coral!
 
That's usually the way it goes with xenia. It either thrives or dies within a few days. If it begins to lose polyps and the end of the stalk then becomes white it usually indicates a chemical imbalance in the water. Sometimes a big water change can get things back in check. I had to dose Tech-CB for a few months until my ions got back in balance. I don't really know what an "ion imbalance" consists of, but the 2-part scheme did the trick. I would imagine using any 2-part cal/alk would do the trick if you come to that problem.
Otherwise, dosing iodine can sometimes perk up xenia. Lugol's Solution is great because it's super concentrated (unlike most Kent chems). Tech-I is my personal favorite as it's time released so you don't have iodine "spikes" when you dose.
 
If it dont make it. You know where to find more. But you will want to let the tank mature more before you get more of it.
 
It looked like it was trying to make a come back last night. It extended it's arms for the first time since I moved it. Hopefully it will be ok.
 
I added the first fish to my tank today :D .

The wife and I went to pick up some water and got a couple of true Percs also. They are making themselves at home. I fed them to see if they would eat and they acted like they haven't been fed in a month. I will post some pics later.
