New tank water level

I have a new Marineland 90 gallon tank with a ProClear Aquatics 150 sump that I set up this week. It is drilled so that the sump is under the stand. The water level is barely above the bottom of the trim piece at the top. If I add more water, the sump starts to overfill. I have not turned the in sump skimmer on yet. Is there a way to adjust so that I can have more water in the tank without overflowing the sump? Also, what prevents the sump from overflowing if the power is off to the pump?

You might be able to add a standpipe in the overflow area to increase the water level in the tank, but I'd just let it be for a while.

The system shouldn't have enough water to cause flooding if the pump goes off. You might need to remove some water from the sump if your tank doesn't meet this spec. :)

Never add enough water to your system to overflow the sump should you lose power. Your sump should never be filled so high as to overflow when the power goes off.

If you get your return pumps going, and you still feel that the waterlevel in your display tank is too low, it it because you need to make an adjustment in the overflow. Raise it.

This is how it works.
Hope the drawing is clear enough.
The orifice in the underside of the top portion of the return line is to prevent sypon back to the sump when the pump stops and the check valve fails, the check valve is to prevent the return line to empty when the pump is off and get a tank full of airbubbles when it restarts.
The level in the sump when the pump is running is half or less depending how much water level above the overflow you have in the tank when running.

When you talk about the overflow area, is that the part of the tank behind the screen where the bulkhead is located? the sump itself is less than 1/2 full.

yes that is the overflow. should be black with teeth on the top for water to be skimmed

The anit-siphon hole was already drilled in the return pipe when I bought the tank. It was drilled below the 90 degree turn to the tank. If I try to raise the water level in my tank it will be below the water line. I can always drill a new hole higher up. Is it an issue if that anti-siphon hole is below the surface of the water?

Just means that the siphon won't brake until it reache the whole below the water level. If it is 3 inches below the water level in the tank will siphon 3 inches and then brake
