New tank

Hi everyone,

I am planning a new reef-aquarium with very specific dimensions in terms being 60" long (28 wide and high). Also am looking to make it starfire.

You guys know anyone local (Ithaca / Syracuse area) that can build good tank, drilled with overflows and all that good stuff and cabinetry?

Cheers,
Carsten

That's a fairly specific design, unfortunately it would need to be custom. Not sure of anyone locally. Most of the local people that have custom tanks have used Miracles Aquariums in Canada (Toronto I believe). The tanks are built with the highest quality, BUT the shipping can be a killer. I'd expect a tank with your specifications to run between 2-2.5K delivered.

As for cabinetry, I don't think you'll find anyone locally that gets better recommendations than joeswoodworks. He did my canopy which I pick up Saturday. I started a thread with some of his work on it.

Hope this helps. Going custom can be quite costly.

thanks this does help. And re: costly, yeah I get that. At the same time, compared to all the other things I will stick into this aquarium $$ wise it seems silly to not spend the right amount of $ to get the perfect size.
If they are in Toronto maybe I can pick it up myself :)

Is there anyone else closer?

You may hear of Glass-Cages. They are a US based company, but this website is riddled with poor reviews an quality issues. Picking up yourself will subject you to paying duty if I'm not mistaken. I'd suggest getting a quote from ABC Reefs or your closest shop.

Why so specific on those dimensions? It sounds sweet, just so specific its worth asking about.

Well, there is exactly a 60 in opening where this tank would go. I had a 90 before and it's 18"depth seemed flat, 24 would have been ok but really I have room for 30.
Now my wife thought 30 is too much and so we negotiated to 28 ...

I think you get the gist :-)

The things not right wit a standar 60 wide is that they only come 18 deep - I want deeper. And then there is te issue of internal overflows, bulkheads, ...

Really, I just want the perfect aquarium dream though if I turn the machine back on ...

Understood loud n clear as soon as the word wife was read. There was a Tank Of The Month (TOTM) within the past year or so that was a 5 foot 190. Similar dimensions to what you're talking about. It had custom cabinetry and was, incidentally built by Miracles. That would be worth looking in the TOTM archives for. Sounds similar to what you'd like to ultimately have.

Yeah, I was just reading it and wondering whether 24 high is smarter than 28 ...
Thanks for the link though - that is a tank to live up to.

just throwin it out their but i have a 120 gallon tank for sale(60"lengthx25.5" tallx18"wide) The bottom needs to be recaulked because it leaked on me so i bought a new tank. It has a few scratches on it as well. It is not reef ready and you would need an overflow(sold that seperate) but then it wont take up space like with the internal overflows. I am selling it with the oak stand for $175. It would be a good started tank untill you can decide on what you want??? Like i said just throwing it out their. I think i have the price low enought where it will be worth someones time to fix it....and hold you over untill you get exactly what you want(i have some power compacts as well im selling that fit on a 60" tank)
I have it posted on this site with pics if you check my last posts. Thanks for you r time and good luck with what ever you do!!

Rjmayes, thank you but this really isn't an option for me. The depth of a standard is too small for my plans. 24" is the minimum. You are right though, price is right! Thanks for the offer.
