New tank

I did hyposalinity to treat ich and apparently botched up my calibration, I was down to 1.009 I THOUGHT but it was actually 1.006. The wrasse didnt survive it, the other fish were acting pretty bad too so after ruling out stuff I recalibrated as a last option and realized I was low. His stomach had really swelled by that point and he was looking horrible, died pretty soon after. Bad way to go.

I raised it back up to 1.009 and every other fish survived and started eating again, but it definitely killed off the wrasse. Too bad, he was a great fish.

I dont believe in signs or fate, but I cant help but think this sticker on my new tank can only mean good things...

E.P.I.C.

One of the sweetest pics I've ever seen on this site :D.

I'm looking forward to following your build man. I was hoping you'd go 300+ so I could live vicariously but any tank in your hands is bound to look sweet (especially with a little bit of insurance from on high ;) )

Hah, I liked the picture too.

I'm also sad that it's not a 300+ gallon tank, but living in an apartment just isn't conducive to that :)

This tank has no build thread, sorry. It was a really simple setup, I put a piece of plywood onto a 180g tank stand, set the 40g on top of that off to the left side and then set up my sump underneath. I'm using a skimmer rated for 150g HEAVY stocked, and I'm running a 40g HEAVY stocked, so water quality is not an issue yet. All in all, it took me 2 days between driving to my brothers to use his tablesaw on the plywood and then setting up the PVC for the sump drain and return.

I just liked the 40g breeder dimensions so much better than the 38g I had. Both are the same length, but the 38g is only 12" front to back and the 40g is 18, plus it's not as tall which is great, the fish dont use the height anyway.

At the risk of starting a flame war, here are my fish in the latest video I took of them feeding.

Yes, I realize that's a lot of tangs in a small tank, but I dont plan on them being here forever. Right now they are small and growing rapidly but doing great. You'll notice no nipped or slashed fins and everyone seems to be getting along "swimmingly". I'll be upgrading soon most likely though, as the clown tang is growing INSANELY fast, he went from 1.25-1.5" to a little over 4" in 4 months. If you look through my previous videos, you can see him as a little insect sized fish zipping around the tank, and now in this latest video he is actually slightly larger than the powder blue.

Again, I'm not advocating this tank or stocking list, but it works for me and all the fish, temporarily. I'm actually enjoying doing multiple small upgrades rather than just slamming down $5000 on a 600 gallon tank :) It's giving me projects to goof around with.

Where the queen go???
She was getting REALLY big REALLY fast. She was to the point she ate more food than all the other fishes combined. I basically needed to get rid of everyone else and keep her and have to upgrade really soon, or get rid of her and keep the other fish for longer.

So, long story short, a LFS has her and she is doing really good there. I can still go see it whenever I want, which is cool.

Love that pyroferus. Such an underrated fish.
They really are a cool fish. It was one of the few tangs I've never kept, so I went ahead and got one this time around. I like it a lot, although I think it still has some more coloring up to do as it gets bigger.

Is this your 'For Sale' thread on CL im reading? Its a shame your selling everything but family comes first. Also am i reading that your going to set up your larger tank as FW?! How could you? Lol.

Yeah, it's my ad.

I'm probably not going freshwater, I have been thinking about it more and it's just too boring.

But, I'm moving in 2 weeks and having a baby in a little less than 4 months. I've got a 210 gallon tank and I dont have the hardware to run it... my skimmer is rated for a 150g heavily stocked, so it would be OK, but I want it to be way oversize. Plus I have too small of a return pump, basically too small of everything in the sump.

To make a long story short, I dont think the tank will sell. I'm actually hoping it wont. But if it does, then it makes my move to the new house a lot easier and I'll have a little time to get the 210 set up, then restock. I'd be sad to see my fish go, but I dont mind so much if I know they go to a good home. I can always get more fish, so its not a big loss. Tangs, unfortunately, are like cheerleaders in my mind. They are gorgeous but not a lot of personality. They aren't individuals, for the most part, they just all act like each other. I can buy another lieutenant tang and pretty much be sure he is going to act like my last one.

If it was something real personable like trigger or puffer, I'd have a harder time selling them :) My old puffer would follow me around the room and no one else. I was sad when I sold him.

Anyway, the tank most likely wont sell and I'll just move all the old livestock into the 210 and have an undersized sump. That's not really ideal but it's the way I think it's going to end up. I was thinking I could build another sump and just swap it for this one a couple months down the road, but the stand would have to have the end cut off to get anything like a long tank in or out of it, so that isnt feasible. I was then thinking I could just use three rubbermaid totes for a sump, chained together, but I still cant get the old 40b I'm using out of the stand, so that wont work either.

So yeah, I'll most likely have the 210g with a 40b as a sump, which isnt a BAD setup but I customized it totally for the skimmer I have, which isnt really enough for what I'd like to stock in a 210g tank...

Anyway, something will turn up. Either the tank will sell and I'll have a couple months to enact a plan or I'll make do with what I got. In the end, I'll have fish to look at :)

I was wondering how much you really wanted to sell your setup considering the $1000 price tag ;) but I do realize the equipment justifies the costs. So are any of the fish for sale or were you wanting to sell everything together if someone wanted it? I'm asking because I would be interested in the chocolate tang, damsel, and possibly the cleaner wrasse if you are going to sell them. I hear the cleaner wrasses are iffy so I've never thought of keeping one, but yours has been alive for a while so I'd consider it then.

Also, where did you get your feeder? Petco or online? My fish would enjoy being feed on more of a schedule.

Also Congrats on the new baby and house. So if the tank doesn't sell you will use the current sump and skimmer for the 210? I guess it isn't bad considering Tim was using the 6" reef octopus on the 210 before he took it down, it still seems small for a tank that size IMO.
