New tank!

sick yet brilliant
Got my Christmas present early, a 120g All-Glass with the 2 "mega" overflows. I'm putting a 30g sump in the bottom. I plan to set this one up slowly and want to do it right. I have a 55 in another room that will eventually be taken down and transferred to this one. I expect to take 4-6 months before I move it all over. I'm going to give it at least 6 months with no fish to establish critters.

So, I'm going to have tons of questions. To start, I got a Mag12 pump, planning to drill a bulkhead in the sump to have the pump external. This is going in my living room, will this pump be too loud? Is it best to have it inside the sump or would that generate too much heat?

I'm planning out all the plumbing and electrical, I'll have a GFCI home-run just for this setup. I need advice on valves. I know Anthony said to use gate valves instead of ball valves to regulate flow but I don't see them in the usual plumbing places.

I'll be running PC's, maybe adding T5 but probably wait to see about MH after a year or so.

Words of wisdom welcome...:)

Not any major widom, but now that your tank will be nearly 3X bigger, water resevoir's and other plumbing and power related redundancies should go on the list of to do's, basically make sure your up to scale on your survivors list for worse case scenarios :).

Would it be better to have two 600 pumps instead of one 1200?
I have the battery emergency air pumps and a generator for longer-term power outages. I guess I'll keep the 55 for emergency livestock storage.
