New Tank

Not strange I think they look like good skimmers but I recently have read some reveiws of it that are more critical, and it occurred to me that they are not the oldest design.


I hope they work well for you is likely just a matter of adjustment, the dual skimmer setup should be very versatile

Things (I think) are slowly turning around. The BK's are pulling stuff out of the water even though 100% of the water gets processed by the volcano. The algae on the backglass of the display is slowly dissolving so I think I've once again turned the corner. Alot of the corals have some repairing to do so that is still up in the air. The BK's are dead silent which is always a nice feature. They are also flawless in workmanship. No other skimmer I have ever owned has the quality of these. So far I couldn't be happier!
 
I, too, am a fan of dual skimmers for large systems. In fact, for my new 450g system, I've added a BK 300 Deluxe to my existing Deltec AP851 for all the reasons hahnmeister listed. I also like using 2 different brands to take advantage of the benefits of both.

FWIW, those privitera are cheap. Ive seen them for $1500 other places... must be pretty!

So, if you dont mind me asking... what sort of anthias do you plan on keeping or trying to get when this system is ready? Purple Queens? Pseudanthias pulcherrimus? I take it Pseudanthias privitera is "off the list"...lol. But how about some of the Bartletts or Red Stripes? Dispar? paravirostris? Pseudanthias pleurotaenia?

I was checking out the collector's lists recently (whats on their list usually shows up at the wholesellers and online vendors in a month). I saw a bunch of rubrizonatus on there... thats a pretty one. There are also alot of Mirolabrichthys Smithvanizi.

Im not the biggest Anthias fan myself, but I have always liked the Serranocirrhitus types... the Sunburst and Japanese Basslets...Holanthias borbonius... Id drop serious cash for a Holanthias fuscipinnis.

So what's your poison Tom?... Im wondering what an 'Anthias Afficionado' like yourself is really into.

Pseudanthias bimaculatus? Hutchii? There were Pictilis all over the place just a little while ago. Pseudanthias hawaiiensis? Now I see Pseudanthias ventralis, but for $100 a pop. For $100 a pop, Id rather get lineatus wrasses...lol.
 
I'm not really sure what I have decided for sure. I'm still trying to get the tank turned around so the corals are looking better before adding any more load to the tank. From the looks of it could be awhile before adding any more fish.

My all time favorite anthias is bimaculatus of which I have a male and female now. I also like the redstripe of which I have 3 now as well. To round up my collection now I have a handful of ignitius.

I know there are some rarer species out there now that even just a few years back I never saw on the retail market. Of course the price tag relates this too which for even an anthias lover like myself persuades me not to buy them.

I also have some angels on my wish list as well but like I mentioned will wait until things turn around.

I have never been much of a wrasse fan for the main reason they are jumpers. If not for that I would be all over them for there are many with outstanding colorations.
 
Ah, the bimac... those are pretty. I take it you like the more 'perchlike' anthias... not the 'waif' style ones like tuka, pascalus, or dispar?

Do you have a link or pic of the ignitius? I dont think I have ever seen/heard of them before.

What type of angels are you going for? Clarions? Regals? Or less risky ones like bellus/watanabe/etc? FWIW, I no longer trust any of them with corals. They all seem to end up wanting to snack sooner or later.

Yeah, wrasses are jumpers, but all you need to do is add a parimeter of fiberglass screen or egg-cragte to your tank to keep them from jumping out. I never had a problem with wrasses jumping as long as I took measures to stop them. Recenltly, at Bills, he had the egg-crate off for cleaning just for a little bit, and his lineatus wrasse launched itself out of the tank onto the concrete... killed on impact. Then again... he should have put the 'parimeter' back up as soon as he was done cleaning.

Angels would probably be watanabes and bellus. Clarions are cool but too rich for my blood. I've tried regals and although on my list they didn't make it in my tank for what ever reason.

I have heard some say the wrasses can find any hole they can. Kind of like octopi. Not worth it in my mind.

Perhaps a few different tangs as well. Achillis perhaps. Will see.

All of these however are on the back burner. I'm getting things stablizied first. I also pm you on my other thoughts.
